I don’t see how the tweet is racist. Valerie Jarrett is white and Valerie Jarrett DOES IN FACT look like the ape woman from planet of the apes, so how is the tweet racist?

Make of it what you will..

Sure, but I tend to keep in mind white people haven't been denigrated & seen as subhuman for generations with comparisons to primates as a leading example of how they're wild, violent animals unworthy of being treated well. White people have not had to prove, and still be ignored, that they're not subhuman wild primates.

THAT is why primate comparisons for blacks are offensive. Deliberately denigrating comparison is denigrating.

But she isn't black. And her ancestors are more likely to have owned black slaves..

As far as I know, yes she is. Her skin tone is not unheard of for blacks, they run the gamut of a tan to jet black, for crying out loud. That's like saying a tanned person can't be Irish because they're not lily white.

Knock knock it's reality

black is black and white is white

rachel dolezal is not black

eminem is white

No s#, we know that. Jarrett is still black whether you want to admit it or not.

Exactly what constitutes being black to you, anyway? Pure African? Most American blacks are mixed to a degree at some point in their family histories (white, Native) This allows for greatly varying shades of skin. How the hell do you not understand that much?

Well according to the white privilege theory every shade of white that one person has vrs another is a gain

wtf have you been

So naturally it is all about the color of ones skin and nothing to do with dna and such according to the white privilege theory

imo it is all hogwash designed to separate based on color and fake outrage fanning the flames of division

you ask what constitutes being black? picking cotton and eatin water melon?

I got this from 4chan.

>NFL bans kneeling during anthem

Conservatives: private companies can do what they want!!! free speech does NOT mean there won't be consequences!

>Roseanne gets canceled over racist tweet

Conservatives: this is an outrage! the liberal media is trying to ban dissent! liberals hate free speech!

The hypocrisy is astounding.

We’re at a time in history where people can’t see the fault with their own failed politics because they’ve been taught to hate the other side so much.

It’s always them. The others. Their fault. They’re the ones behind it. They’re controlling it. It couldn’t be that the leaders of both parties are just as corrupt as each other.

Nah. They’re always worse. We’re fighting a war.

I wonder if Roseanne knew she is black when she wrote the tweet. If she didn't, then it's clearly not racist.

What did she mean by the "Planet of the Apes" remark?

Hmm...I cannot imagine:

Yes, believe it or not she is African-American. Her parents are both American but were living in Iran when VJ was born. They moved out of Iran when she was 4 years old from what I remember.

I wonder if Roseanne knew she is black when she wrote the tweet. If she didn't, then it's clearly not racist.

Honestly, I didn't know VJ was black until today.

I wondered the same thing. I didn't realize Jarrett was black either until a few years ago when I was looking up her history.

One of her first responses when she was called racist for the tweet was something, like, "Muslim is not a race."

Eh, it didn't sound, to me, like she even realized VJ was black.

You think that's what she meant. If she did then she should have made that clear instead of not thinking and messing it up.

She basically called black people apes. Which, is a far too often reference anti-black racists use. Now, if she was trying to be funny in front of her friends and made this (lame) joke, that's one thing. However, she thought about and put it on twitter.

She deserves to get fired and never be on tv again. Is that harsh? No, she's a millionaire with a large public outlet.

Funny that, I don't see anyone in this thread complaining that ABC fired her, we're merely arguing over whether what she said was even that bad. Nobody has said this was a free speech issue, because it wasn't. ABC can do whatever they wish. That said, they make an unusual move snipcanning their highest rated show, ya?

All this makes me wonder why she would say that right out of the blue in the first place...it is not like VJ is current or pertinent in anyway. I'm thinking she asked for more money and they said no, so she torpedoed the show with one tweet...

All of this starts to melt the whole black, white, brown...thing into one color with 25 different shades. I had a worker who did a DNA check and he came up 8% African and he is a light hair white guy. He was like Damn, I wish I knew this when I was going for scholarships. It's going to be funny when everyone gets a DNA check and we are all Black by definition...lol Maybe I can use the N word too...

Yes, I think that's what she meant.

In fact, I've thought the same thing and I didn't know VJ was black.
