So mamy foolish arguments, so little time.

1. Well enjoy not having the protection of the Police.
Hmmm. Where was a claim ever made of wanting their protection? Or that of any other emergency service?

2. Enjoy not having medicine.
Thats making the assumption the individual can nit afford their own medicine. I have no medical insurance at all. I get medicine just fine, withiut help. Also pay my doctors too. Who would have thought?

3. But my roads!
Again, assumptive reasoning. The assumption being that a community could not handle such by itself. This applies to emergency services as well.

4. What about water and food. Or trash removal?
I can take care of all that myself perfectly fine, thank you.

For the individual who brought up the trash example:
Well, sans emergency services, or intervention, i would guess the citizens of the community, or neighboring communities, would at minimum stop using the service, or even run the business out of the area through force.

I dont require the Governments assistance to live....or prosper.

Sure.
I love going to jail

Sometimes going to gaol is needed to make a difference. This is the problem with modern life. Very few are willing to to do what they need to do.

I often imagine many major history changing moments and wonder how they would be if they occurred in modern times.

Like the Australian "Eureka Rebellion".
If they took the attitude of, "oh no, better not challenge the authority, I might go to gaol or worse get dead."
That instead of rebelling, they just impotently took out classified ads in the newspaper whining how awful things were instead. (that times equivalent of a facebook or twitter rant.)

I doubt the British would of taken them seriously and we'd still to this day be under their rule today.

Any wonder that despite our technology we seem to be going backwards globally when it comes to our societies and political corruption etc.

Society, especially at the political and law level needs a reboot. But yeah, it aint gonna happen from just sitting on our hands crying about it.

Pretty sure like I have seen these same conversations 10 and 20 years ago.
People doing little to nothing about those we pay, those who work for us, our employees, being our 'leaders' and telling us what to do, pretty sure I'll be seeing these same discussions and same limp wristed response to all that is wrong in our world in another 10 and 20 years if I am still alive.

It should be a surprise that so few can control and affect so many. Sadly it's not when everyone has lost their balls.

LOL not all pensions are paid from taxes. I work for the government and we are self funded. We don't even use government assistance for ANYTHING.

I prefer the perks we get from local, state & federal taxes over not paying them, it keeps us from mirroring Banana Republics & 3rd World dumps. I'd rather throw less money at the black hole money-suck that is the military, thanks. And cut down the pay for Washington, that's ridiculous overpayment for what is barely PT work for senators & congressmen.

America, that grand experiment in representative republics, is failing.

America is dying.

America has begun to feed upon itself.

We are entering the first stages of a death of a nation, a death of a dream, the death of freedom and liberty.

I wouldn't necessarily say dying just yet, there's time to restructure/change before that, but it certainly isn't reflecting the wishes of the people by any means in it's current state. I guess a representative republic isn't the bee's knees when it comes to freedom to vote for choices after all, imagine that.
In the interest of being "fair & balanced" (huh, now there's a progresssive-y, snowflake-y definition according to many) we have to give up the ability to choose mass agreed upon desires on our own & put it in the hands of representatives while we get down on our knees & spend years begging for them, all while those politicians make a nice, fat paycheck off us while mostly ignoring us & those mass agreed upon desires.
Not having at least partial direct democracy on a federal level will be what nails the coffin shut. A free country will eventually implode without that, it's the backbone of basic freedom -- choice.

I think you're misunderstanding fundamentally what the government's roll in our lives is meant to be

the government isn't suppose to do what the majority of people think it's suppose to do which is why we have the elctoral college and we are not a direct Democracy (see CA to understand direct democracy)

the governments job is suppose to be to protect individual rights and to protect us from violence and other nations that's it

everything else is suppose to be handled weather collectively or not in the free market, you want social safety nets? sure have at it, no reason to get the government involved they just misappropriate all the money anyway

No s#, Sherlock. I get what a representative republic is and what a direct democracy is. Could have sworn I just made that clear and how it's not working out well for us not having partial DD involved. Simple, straightforward crap like medical pot -- mind you, something dripping with scientific support that blasts the rigged fed status criteria out of the water -- can't even be voted for or against in a direct federal vote, we have to grovel at politicians to get that done piecemeal state by state and hope they even give a damn, and it doesn't even change the federal impacts. Inefficient lawmaking, and certainly worthless in a "free" country.

You sound unaware that there is technically no law that says we are required to pay things like income tax. They use terms like "mandatory volunteerism" to make it sound like we must. When in reality it's just taxation without representation. Leftists and democrats have people convinced that their tax dollars actually benefit our society. When in reality most taxes just go to pay the interest in the national debt.

You only go to jail for tax evasion if you are not smart enough to navigate the system.

Tell you what. Cut military spending. Even 10% and there will be plenty to go around.

And you...
Like we the American people actually have a say in what our establishment spends tax dollars on. Just be thankful you are afforded the safety of living in America's biggest national park... aka Canada.

Totally off topic, but I’d just like to counterpoint your sig stating there is no freedom “to”, but only freedom “from”. What about the freedom “TO” choose, the freedom “TO” make your own decisions? Not saying there may or may not be consequences to those choices or decisions, but most, at least in the US, are free “TO” at least do those two things.

Actually, I guess it’s on topic since a few here say we should make the choices “TO” not pay taxes or “TO” not send our kids to school.

this is a good point but I would also add that everything the government does can be done in the private sector but it will actually benefit a business owner and not some politician's paycheck / campaign finance

there's no valid reason why these things can't be done by us outside of government

To expand on that, I wait for the day the USPS closes its doors and a private company does the job. The USPS has a union, pension, and is a federal entity. And it's always broke. They rarely, if ever, see a profit.

It is fascinating and more still that very little is ever said about how your local school tax isnt paid by you but through a 3rd party.

it is said that thing called a birth certificate that your parents sign on birth is your unwitting contract into slavery at first the state level and then at the federal level once one becomes the age of 18.

The US being treated as a resource to capitalize on animal vegetable and mineral as the government is ran as a business; to the world at large as well as local?

Then all citizens cannot profit share when under such a slave contract; instead they are beheld to that social paper, the business that the US does with other countries namely fighting in proxy wars that helps fund the military industrial complex that only fuels the need for more inflated health care both physical and mental from all that damage only hands our asses right back to us as an entire nation...

So who is the fool and who is being duped in this entire mass of stupidity?

Do they owe us a living? Of course they do; especially when all they do is keep on making a killing.

I just want this government out of my damn business and money

Fine. Stop using roads. Use your own medicine. Take your own garbage to the dump. IDK how you're going to police(literally) your own life nor keep criminals locked up. I could go on. Like Shuyler said, you have no idea what this all entails.

Roads would not be a good example. We pay fees for the roads from tags to taxes on gas and tires. We pay USER FEES on toll roads. So roads are not the place but maybe internet access would be better. Roads pay for themselves when there is proper oversight that prevents bribes, misuse of funds for 'pork' projects and poor structural designs.
