Apparently there's a debate on the internet as to whether the voice on this video says 'Laurel' or 'Yanny' , I did a search and it hasn't been posted so we're missing out on the debate , can't have that so here it is.

'Laurel' or 'Yanny' ?

It's Laurel !

The secret, it turns out, is frequency.
The part of the sound that makes some people hear Yanny is higher frequency than that which makes some people hear Laurel. As Lars Riecke, assistant professor of audition and cognitive neuroscience at Maastricht University, explained to The Verge: "If you remove all the low frequencies, you hear yanny. If you remove the high frequencies, you hear laurel. "If your... ears emphasise both the higher and lower frequencies, you can toggle between the two sounds."

But it could be Yanny.

A couple of ladies brought that by my desk this moring, and asked what do I hear. This was before I knew anything about this trending thingy. I heard Laurel. They walked 2 offices down from me, and I could hear Yanny. So there's that.

There was a segment on this on Good Morning America.
Some heard yanni - then laurel; another only heard laurel.

I only hear laurel.

An audio " what colour is this dress? " ...

It's all about pitch. Low pitch = Yanny. High pitch = Laurel. If you heard it differently "down the hall" that's the Doppler Effect

I happened to see this this morning on "the drunk ladies hour" (kathie lee and hoda) and i heard yanny first. The more it repeated, i heard laurel. Especially if my head was turned.

It reminds me of high school. There was this tone that only young people could hear. It was an awful, migraine inducing high pitch squeal. The annoying kids would crank their phone or laptop up to high in older teacher's classes.

Worst part is you could never quite discern where it was coming from, so it was hard to pinpoint the a**hat responsible.

Weird...i heard Laurel and my son heard Yanny while listening at the same time.

Reminds me of the movie Pontypool. Good movie, but i thought the plot was unbelievable and farfetched, now not so much.

It's Laurel.

There is no other word being said. This is just marketing gimmick.

This made me think about the current polarization of public opinion we are experiencing. If a short sound recording can be understood so differently by different people, then it's no wonder that some can see Trump as a vile crook, while others see him as a golden hero.

I have listened several times, and only hear Yanni.

Yes.
Question everything that others are so sure about.
Start with the diverging opinions.
-
Then move-on to questioning your senses.
Everything we see and hear, and how they are interpreted by our individual brains.

It's a wonder we can agree on anything at all!

The 2 sounds are not compatible. I took a clip I could find on Youtube, ran it on my phone, without the extraneous blathering before and after, and it's as clear as a bell: Laurel. I slowed it down, sped it up, and as soon as I can get it into audacity on this thing, I'll mangle it to death. My take is it'll still have one distinct sound.

My take is someone is doing an experiment- either marketing, or government, and then targeted stuff will make sure that you, and ONLY you will get 'a clear message', while others will hear something utterly different. Sounds familiar, don't it?

I swear- the world gets creepier by the day....

I just tried this on my wife, who cannot hear high frequencies. I can.

We both hear 'Laurel'. I'm smelling power of suggestion chicanery.
