Stuff cost so much because companies are doing their best to make as much money as possible. When the market has a hand full of players, that going to happen in today's world.

When you decided to attempt to detail it by mentioning that phrase.
Which phrase? Where?

No need to play dumb, we already know what you are. When you were the first and only "person" to mention the term flat Earth. Defensive much?

You are mistaken.
The last maybe, but not the first or only. I used the term once, in response to the obvious direction of your questions.

You may want to check the definition of the word.

I answered the question and asked another.

Do you think the White House paid 10 grand for a hammer, or do you think Independence Day was a documentary too?

We have been hearing that since long before Independence day.

I haven't. Please provide a reference to the White House paying 10,000 for a hammer.

What does the White House need a helmet for? I can see needing a hammer for repairs, it's an old building.

Really where do you think Independence day got that from cmon? Its because it was a bit of an urban legend.

The point is they overpay for everything.

And then you have to put thermal shielding, radiation shielding, attitude control system, interface, signal booster, and everything else a satellite needs. They're not taking off the shelf components bought at Best Buy, slapping a shell around them, jacking the price up, and putting them in orbit.

Well, you're right - *we're* not. Nor are most reasonably developed countries that wish to launch some.

But there are some countries/regimes and even private consortium's and/or individuals, that are essentially attempting to do almost exactly that - analogously speaking.

What's astonishing is that a few of them have actually succeeded although I attribute it primarily to just plain old dumb luck.

You gotta love the dreamers, n'est pas?

Have you even looked beyond the price tag? Completely leaving aside that they are custom fit, have you looked at what they do?

Since they don't have to report to their people what they spend they can claim they paid whatever they wanted for one.

No. I don't know. How would I? They aren't quite as open as our government.

How do you think they can do anything to a helmet that is worth 400k? You can buy a smart house with a swimming pool for 400k..

Fine, since we're going that route. Have you looked at what the helmet does. Or did you just stop at the price tag.
