As many of you know I am an old style FDR Democrat. I am pretty far to the left when it comes to labor policies and labor rights. So it's not very often for me when someone on the right makes me think, "Damn, that was a good speech." Check this speech out from Bill Cooper. The first part is okay but from the 3:30 mark forward is absolutely terrific:

Any thoughts right or left?

My thought is "why make this a partisan thing?"

Cooper was right on the money about SO many things that weren't on anybody's radar at the time. Celebrate that. Don't confine yourself within a political construct.

I not sure if I just posted it without the partisan dressing many people here would watch it. I am pretty sure my views are not PC around here.

Bill Cooper was a Right Wing nutbag that went off the rails towards the end of his life and I disagree with much that he said.

But he was a great speaker and that speech, which was held in Lansing, Mi I believe, was one of his best.

Towards the end of the full speech, he talks about our common bond as Americans and how freedom is that bond. He went as far as to say that everyone needs to have their freedoms or we only to serve to stop our own.

He made a lot of Right Wingers angry when he said he stood up for the rights of the communists, etc.

No matter. Great speech and worth the time to listen to the entire thing.

Yeah, I don't disagree with anything you said. But as you said, "No matter. Great speech and worth the time to listen to the entire thing. "

Sometimes you have to ignore the messenger.

Who cares if your views are not PC?
You are a member and you have a right to your opinion.
Screw PC.
We all find some common ground at some point.

For people who think their own opinions are facts there is no common ground.

There are a lot people here who don't like socialists. But regardless, it's really a great speech from 3:30 onward.

(NOTE: Quote refusing to work but this is a quote, in quotes, my comment follows)

"Bill Cooper was a Right Wing nutbag that went off the rails towards the end of his life and I disagree with much that he said.

At first you said he was right wing and then you said he stood up for the rights of communists-- which is far left wing.

Please, make up your mind. 😉

I actually got to interview him personally once and I can assure you he was about as apolitical as you could get. His issues were with the entire system, he didn't have any politics.
