I was curious reading up the difference between US Military 'aid' and foreign aid. I think it's odd that it's called military 'aid' though because nobody thinks the owner of the gun store is providing 'aid' in that sense when he sells you a weapon. Anyway, it turns out Britain gets 3.9 million dollars of 'aid' each year, actually did laugh reading that.

Again I think it's more a collaborative working thing with a university and just being called 'aid', but stranger still is the bulk of the money seems to have gone to the US dept of energy, while the university got 38k and some obscure group called IFFO The Marine Ingredients Organisation got 24k.
The whole thing seems rather fishy to me, almost an accounting scam or something, some grants or whatever being classed as 'aid' seems ridiculous, Britain doesn't need foreign aid.

So what say you fellow skeptics on ATS, should Britain be grateful for the crumbs, or is it all just a scam?

That's a lot of $400 hammers and $800 toilet seats.

Clearly a scam.

UK doesn't need that 3million. That won't even buy a single tank.

It's just a bit of research. Somewhat less than France or Germany.

I didn't check other countries, lol they give 'aid' to France as well?!
I reckon it's a scam as Unflushable said, research or grant money being called 'aid' total scam, as IgnoranceIsntBlisss said, $400 hammers etc.

Going from your link, Canada seems to be getting 3.2 million. Australias only gets 60k though.

But for New Zealand, it says their getting minus 318k... lol, it seems New Zealand is actually giving the US foreign aid, rather than taking it.

Haha I should have had a look at other countries!
Australia got 60k and NZ are paying out 318k to help the US?! You couldn't make it up, seems like a total accounting scam to me.

Here is a interactive map about all foreign aid spending. With number for planned, obligated and spent.

What aid does Germany receive from the USA? Do you have a source of any kind?

I know that we (as German tax payers) do pay for a huge percentage (66%) of the building cost of US bases in Germany over the last ten years. That´s 600 million €. Plus 327 million € for repairing stuff US-soldiers broke or lived down. Plus 70 million € subvention for US bases in Frankfurt, Ramstein and Spangdahlem. Plus tax and customs duty perks in unknow heights...

Here is the source article:

Here is a direct link to the PDF:

It´s all German, there are no english sources. The Süddeutsche Zeitung is a very reputable source.

It's probably a payoff disguised as 'research' to get fake climate data.

The Government loves them some fake doom porn.

Haha! It is so obviously an accounting scam!
I bet it is unpopular that you spend so much for US bases, okay I get it back in the day but it's not like Russia is gonna invade if they weren't there now. Another scam if you ask me, just different budgets.

By the way, this "aid" we begged, was spent on USA´s own stuff, not ours. Take a closer look, don´t let yourself fool through statistics.

The only stuff the USA "aided" was 96k$ for the Helmholz University and I bet it had to do with the US MIC.

Lol I'm from Britain mate, we got nearly 4 million in 'aid' apparently.
The definition of 'aid' from the US seems an absolute scam to me.

Apologies, readressed the post

he definition of 'aid' from the US seems an absolute scam to me.

Me, too. And yes it´s an "accounting scam" or at least it´s deeply hidden in the billings. Actually there were times where the US government paid 17% for the building of their own bases (!!!). You have to let that settle, German taxpayers have to come up for the US infrastructure in Germany.

Late edit: I know this thread is about the UK, sorry for injecting myself but I had to comment on that Germany receives aid comment..

Apology not needed
Do you think the US bases cover costs with the $'s they spend? It must be quite a sum of imported currency when you count troops and supplies locally?

I don´t know but I could estimate: 35,002 US personel on German soil in 2014.

100.000.000€ / 35002 people = 2856€ per person per year must be spent to make it even. When we only account for tax (19%), each person needs to spend 14.280€ anually in German shops / for German services like car repair and such to get it back.

Or 988€ a month per person. I don´t think this is the case.

However I do not complain that the US has bases here, they are our allies. But it also makes us a preemptive first strike location for every US enemy, too.

I was thinking along the lines of supplies to the base etc, I assume they source local food, buy local fuel etc?
Big Royal Navy base in my neck of the woods brings millions into the local economy, contractors and the like.
I chuckled at the first strike thing, Britain wouldn't be far behind, and if we were attacked we'd be screwed quickly...I tend not to worry about # like that which is out of my control.

Off-topic but Jurgen Klopp is my absolute favourite EPL manager, he is straight talking and funny as #, my favourite German!

EDIT
I only know of 3 other Germans off the top of my head though Merkel, Hitler, and a chef called Wolfgang who I worked for in his kitchen when I was 17, please excuse my ignorance of famous German people
