My dad is the most avid David Bowie follower/fan I know of. He has all of his stuff. ALL.
In fact, I've never known anyone ever who idolizes someone as much as he does Bowie.

I've played/covered this song and sung it many times. I've listened to it since I was a toddler. And have always been fond, no, particularly fond of it. Both EP and LP version. American cut and British cut.

It has always been "For here am I sitting in a tin can" followed by "Here am I floating round my tin can"

lmao.. ..right - keep telling yourself that.

Classic. I suppose you have a bad memory, and remember it like we do too?

..i have live recordings of my favorite band where the lead singer mixes up the lyrics and acknowledges it. it happens.

these people do a lot of drugs, you know?

Yup..

Think we've covered that a few times?

Indeed - the lyrics are exactly as you say. lol

Let me fix it for ya.. The statement in the context of the thread would be:
"loved this song since I was a kid, it was always the same as it is now for me"

Note in the original 1969 version, he says "Floating Round my Tin Can"....as in being weightless, floating around.

Doesn't matter either way, nothing to do with the fabled Mandalay effect.

He is the original author and performer of this song, he can sing it any damn way he wants.

Ever think he changed the lyrics of the song, each time he sang it, just to mess with peoples heads?

He was Ziggy Stardust after all, and David Bowie was just his alter ego, if you don't believe me, ask David Jones.

Yeah, in my experience, this life, this world, this reality, this dimension, this timeline, this version of me... whatever.

I am who I am.

I understand the feeling one gets with this whole mandela effect. And understand the possible ways it might be real.
But it won't serve me no good.

I just work with that I've got and try to make the best of it, or worst, or....you get me. Life is life. Will find out when I die, or contrary to my beliefs.

I won't.

You raise a very good point..

He wrote it and he can sing it any any damn way he wants!!

I bet he used to suddenly inject the alphabet song while performing - just to get people talking..

It's high time people start to realize THAT!!

..I feel more enlightened now gort51 - empowered mentally somehow.

I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
For here Am I sitting in a tin can Far above the world

The above makes sense for 2 reasons

1) stepping through the door floating at zero G

2) most would not repeat the same word but give a bit of variety in their poetry a few sentences down

Now what makes more sense?

Time isn't after us

One chorus says 'sitting', the next chorus says 'floating'.

Seriously, does google not work where you are?

Have you actually listened to the record?

Since you asked "seriously"...

We have the best working Google here, 5 stars, the highest rated Google anyone's ever seen (larger than any number).

I brought my record player to a friends party and accidentally left it.. I let a different friend borrow all of my records - so I don't have either a record player or records.

It's ok though - I have the Best Working Google, so I can still hear the song!

Honestly, you guys are going to make me make a thread explaining the Mandela Effect so I can just refer you instead of explaining it on every page.

If you had the slightest concept of what the Mandela Effect is, you'd know that asking if I have Google is a pretty silly and makes no sense at all.

Bowie stated he can't even remember recording a whole album in 1976
Argue with Bowie, leave me out of it

I just reported what I heard then because I knew I would get some people come along, I linked an article

So don't carry on at me

Don't be daft. It's obviously the mandela effect. That someone partaking in loads of drugs at the time when recording albums may fub a line or two, is inconceivable. Mandela !!

The Mandela effect is dead!

Space Oddity
David Bowie
Ground Control to Major Tom
Ground Control to Major Tom
Take your protein pills and put your helmet on
Ground Control to Major Tom (ten, nine, eight, seven, six)
Commencing countdown, engines on (five, four, three)
Check ignition and may God's love be with you (two, one, liftoff)
This is Ground Control to Major Tom
You've really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare
"This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do
Though I'm past one hundred thousand miles
I'm feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much she knows
Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit's dead, there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you "Here am I floating 'round my tin can
Far above the moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do"

If only someone would post an actual video of him singing the lyrics - then I might believe you!

Until someone can post a video of reality - or at least post the song lyrics from reality...

..the Mandela Effect STAYS.

(someone post a video, else Mandela Effect)

Was listening to Bowie this morning while getting ready for the day...

Space Oddity was on (Major Tom). I noticed a significant lyric change that stands out like a sore thumb. Skip to 2:15.
He used to sing:
"..floating in my tin can"

He now says:
"..sitting in a tin can"

Do you realise he sings both those lines?
3:50 for floating and 2:15 for sitting.

The PearlJ from my reality wouldn't overlook something like that.

Yeah - see it's claims like these that led to me quickly dismissing the Mandela effect as a legit thing.

I learned to play this song on guitar - years ago.

Not one of my favourite Bowie tracks to be fair, Give me hunky dory any day - quicksand and queen bitch. A true legend.

How good was blackstar?

Yup - re-check the OP - it says about both lines (chorus).

The Pearj you know and love is here with you brother - I wouldn't leave a man behind.

In fact I'm staring you - you've been civil, and I can respect that. In a sea of turds, you're the tuna to my mayo.

...and posting the video I posted of reality isn't playing fair. I need some other actual video of reality - or lyrics.. I'd take real reality lyrics too.

Does your google even work where you are? Don't you have the record or something?

ME 1... Google 0.

Fair enough, I'm confused then.
I've got no idea what are trying to say.

The OP says...

He used to sing: "..floating in my tin can"
He now says: "..sitting in a tin can"

"..floating in my tin can" is at 3:50
"..sitting in a tin can" is at 2:15
