This is one of the greatest ideas ever! Saved my life multiple times

Whoever thought of and implemented this idea for our highways was a genius.

Not sure if it's only used here in Canada but if it is not then it should be!

Do you have any idea?

It's the rumble strip on both sides of the highway!

Here in Canada they've dug up Rows and rows out of the pavement so if you drive off the road too far on either side of the highway it causes ur whole car to vibrate!

It's great at waking one up from a sound sleep or freak you out when trying to text.

Anyway, astonished at how well it works. Has saved my butt multiple times.

Does anyone know what this is called and wondered when they first started using it

So, curious if anyone else has recognized the brilliance of this idea

I call them city-titties.
We have them Texas.
They have made me catch my snap a time or two.

We have had those in indiana for several years.
One highway I know of has a strip in the middle of the road too.

Rumble-strips are also commonplace on U.K. roads

/second line, I don't have much to add really other than that I support their use

helped many many many times, especially when im driving in white-out conditions and have no idea where the heck the road is

Ya got a strip down the middle of the road too? Hmm, good idea as well!

It's rare that something causes me to scream but waking up from a sound sleep by the whole car vibrating at 100 mph is pretty freaky, lol

Also, could just be coincidence but while driving 140km on the 401 I hit the stripes and seconds later my front tire burst, hope it's just random!

WHEN, not if.

Working graveyard shifts I really know how great they are,They keep you alert for sure.I`ve seen many people get wobbly and snap back when they hit the strip.If that doesn`t wake them,a blast with the horn can save someone from crashing.Gets the adrenaline flowing for a while.

FFS, You really shouldn`t be driving, you`re a danger to other drivers. Glad I don`t use the same routes as you. Smh.

Concrete highways covering our beautiful earth was one of the dumbest things humanity has ever done.

There is no such thing as a good hwy.

If we were smart we would find ways to get around cities without needing concrete everywhere.
We are not smart.


But just so you know america does have raised bumps on the sides of most hwys and roads to allert drivers that they have gone outside the lines.

It's not the drivers that are the problem. Most people have no choice but to drive when tired because of how our system is set up.

It's the system that needs to change.

I grew up in Appalachia.
We were so poor that we couldn't afford rumble strips.
We had to use ditches and trees.

Edit to add:
If you fell asleep on our dirt roads, you were probably drunk.

Just 2 country highways coming to an intersection. Janklow blew the stopsign and the Motorcycle hit him at high speed. South Dakota didn't have rumble strips back then and I haven't been back to see if they ever fixed that.

Terrible thing is I did the same thing on a couple of SD highways too. Fortunately no cross traffic.

What's to say: about those nefarious geniuses, whom have deprived so many from candidacy for a well merited Darwin Award?

Have you ever attempted the trifecta? Driving drunk, and falling asleep, while doing something your smartphone?

Maybe there will be something good to come from supposed self-driving vehicules, after all.
