At least I don't have to worry about the police pounding down my door over an opinion as of now.

Do you know what's in my child's best interests as well?

This is a simple case of parental rights.

Children are worth fighting for, and if need be dying for, no way I'd let this happen to my child.

I'm sorry, but no! The parents were desperately clinging on (understandably), but the child had ZERO quality of life! The only cruelty would have been sending him to a bunch of religious nut jobs at the Vatican who would have done no more than pray! The child was in a vegetative state, couldn't see or hear or even FEEL! As a father myself, no matter how hard it was, I would NEVER condemn one my sons through a horrible life like that. Think of the song "One" by Metallica. OK, the lyrics are about a soldier who was blown to bits and ended up only a subconscious in his head. Alfie would've been a subconscious that couldn't even think as he had never been taught to speak, so he wouldn't even have his own thoughts as company!

Anyone wanting that child to stay alive is convicting him to a horrible horrible life! Sad as it is, as a parent myself, letting him go was the best thing for the child.

They can tell a parent that they will treat their child without their consent the thing many here are complaining about.

Yup. Same way courts get involved in the US if both parents are in disagreement about withdrawal of life support.

Just found out some Texas hospitals have gone against parents wishes and gone to court to turn off life support.
Which they did on two occasions that I can find.

www.google.co.uk...

www.houstonpress.com...
So there are places in the states where the same happens.

If Alfie's second name had been Rockefeller, or Windsor for that matter, do you imagine these independent UK courts would have come to the same conclusion?

We are not American, it's not God, country, family, there are no three traditional virtues, its just family!

Funny you bring that up ..... Remember another name, once the richest man in

the world....Getty?

All that money and he wasnt prepared to save his healthy young grandson?

John Paul was held captive by a gang, believed to be the Mafia, in Rome for five months.
It was only when the captors cut off his ear and sent it to an Italian newspaper that his grandfather agreed to pay any money.

Has your child's medical condition been subject to multiple court cases and reported in detail for the last 12 months.
No , I thought not.

Educate yourself and you too will see the inevitability of the outcome of this case.

.... He was even responsive uo until the day he died..... Fact

Where did you get that 'Fact' from?

Because most of us on here are discussing things we have read in papers, the news,

blogs, face book, so no *official FACTS*.

In one source I read and due to Alfies condition of being in a coma for most of his

life is feasible. The photographs that have been put out have been posed to look

like he is responsive with soft toys placed by his face, in his hands, held close

etc. Although understandable, (as those will be the mementos of the future for

his family) Non the less he was in a coma unresponsive.

Coma is a state of unconsciousness in which a person cannot be awakened; fails to respond normally to painful stimuli, light, or sound; lacks a normal wake-sleep cycle; and does not initiate voluntary actions. A person in a state of coma is described as being comatose.

I think you have to look at it as the best they could do versus the worst.
In this case, keeping his body alive through whatever means seems worse than letting him go.
Which is worse than euthanasia.
That said though, how much did his parents prolong his suffering by performing CPR?

and Ill add, he could have kept on living and there could have been more tests, or treatments done , INDEFINITELY barring total organ failure...

The last MRI scan, asked by the judge, showed the child's brain had most of the white matter turned into water and cerebrospinal fluid.

After all they have to defend it.....it makes Universal/ single payer health look bad........

This has nothing to do with the health system, several other countries have similar health systems (like Portugal) and things like this do not happen, this was turned into a legal problem, not a health system problem.

That is what is disgusting about this case. Not that the court said the state would no longer provide treatment, but that it forced other doctors to not provide it

First of all, nobody was providing treatment, as there is no known treatment for the disease that was killing Alfie. Second, I have yet to see real evidence that the court forbid the parents from getting the child to a different hospital. If you have any I would like to see it.

Millions of pounds of free healthcare they got for that poor brain dead child.

And people are actually offended. There is no cure for brain death.
