What an interesting idea... i do know, that if oak is left in water for hundreds of years then dried and cured for another hundred, it reaches its max durability...

Apparently the original seagull outboards had lignum pistons , so its not like it hasn't been done. I'll see if I can get more info.

Lignum Vitae is still in use for heavy use bearings.

Yes I've got this but as yet have not come across the reported tractor with the lead flashing on top of the piston as a heat shield. www.reddit.com...

Ah ha! I've finally found a Ruskie who has explored the urban myth of the wooden piston, and guess what, he appears to have done it and proved that it was not a myth
