Speaking yesterday, US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, admitted that Intelligence estimates miscalculated the size and scope of the insurgency. This admission comes on the heels of yet another high profile abduction in Baghdad. An Italian journalist was seen in a tape pleading for her life. Rumsfield declined to give estimated numbers of insurgents facing coalition troops and indicated that each agency has a different estimate.

US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld admitted yesterday American intelligence agencies miscalculated the size of Iraq's insurgency as an Italian journalist taken hostage in Baghdad pleaded for her life.

Giuliana Sgrena called on foreign forces, including US ally Italy, to withdraw from Iraq in a videotape released by insurgents. Italy's parliament, however, yesterday voted to extend its military commitment in Iraq.

The undated tape was released as the winners of last month's election, an alliance led by religious Shi'ites, were locked in debate over Iraq's new government.

While Ibrahim Jaafari, a physician and leader of the Islamic Dawa Party, has been identified as a front-runner, Ahmad Chalabi, a former Pentagon favorite, is pushing to have his candidacy considered.

My question is this: Have we fixed the intelligence problems that brought us to this point? No has to be the answer to this. More to the point, once again the buck stops with Rumsfield and Wolfowitz who moved out any general that dared dispute thier numbers when it came to force size and requirements. I had hoped that Bush would have accepted the resignation offer of Rumsfield and marginalized Wolfowitz.
