"Southwest Airlines plane suffers engine explosion"

A Southwest Airlines flight has made an emergency landing in Philadelphia after one of its engines experienced an explosion, causing damage and injuring several passengers, officials and witnesses say. The incident happened just after 11 a.m. ET on Tuesday when some sort of explosion affected one of the engines on Southwest Airlines Flight 1380, which was flying from New York City to Dallas.

Is it just me or is this becoming increasingly common in recent years? Not sure what engines this aircraft was running? There were also reports of several people being injured in the initial report.

Jeez. One of my worst nightmares. Was it at altitude, approach, or takeoff?
No doubt a couple of amazing pilots saved a lot of lives.

They were lucky there was only one person injured, this could have been MUCH worse.

Claims now that eight were injured and one was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
