To be honest, I could care less about the POTUS exercising powers as Commander in Chief, that are shy of declaring war, etc. There is obviously a need for this role, that simply cannot be done by committee, and without leaks, etc.

That said though, there is a responsibility to act only when you are doing so based on certainties.

So far, the administration has not explained itself well enough that it has proof that a) the attack even happened the way it is claimed and b) that it was Assad's forces responsible if so. Not only have they failed to inform the people of it, but also even Congress. Even Mattis urged the need for more proof.

Then, you circle back to the fact that we shouldn't even be there in the first place. Part of his campaign platform was to pull us out of Syria. A year into his term, and we are STILL there, and now ESCALATING the damn thing.

This represents yet another complete reversal or 180 on a campaign stance. And really, for many, it's just one too many.
