the thing is though, that even the original colonies had laws that required those that had much to chip in to assist the widows and orphans, those who
couldn't take care of themselves.. as did england since victorian times.
the alternative is crime, blight, disease, and such, that in one way or the other will touch all. but that's not to say that our desire to lift
others out of poverty can't be abused, by gov'ts, by religion, and by individuals.
when indian children were taken from the reservation and placed in special schools (for humanitarian reasons of course), the funds came from
taxpayer's pockets and church donations.
heck it wouldn't surprise me to learn that the slave trade was somewhat justified as being humanitarian, taking the savages of africa and civilizing
them, bringing to god and all that crap.
well, our current system has suffered from massive abuse, by the left, by the right, by the employers, by the healthcare providers, by the land lords,
by anyone who profits by the production or selling of whatever our gov't decides is needed and should be subsidized for the "poor", probably more
badly than the recipients have abused it!
it's capitalism, merged with socialism with a strong dose of facism added in.. and the socialism has just turned into the excuse to keep diverting
the wealth from the people to who ever is benefitting at the top from the subsidizing of the poor... the corps producing and distributing the needed
goods, the banks who are issuing the ebt cards and making student loans, the employers who no longer have to worry about weather their wages actually
pay enough to keep their employers alive and well... not only is there really much of a chance of anyone escaping from the ranks of the poor, but the
mass of poor just keeps growing as the greed at the top keeps wanting more and more for their goods and services and the gov't keeps expanding their
programs to accommodate those who cannot pay that more and more.
remember when welfare was mainly to provide for the elderly, the widows, the disabled, the temporarily unemployed, and the few single moms in the
world? compare that to now where you can have a family with two people working full time and still find them needing food stamps, or help with their
kid's healthcare, or childcare needs!! federal programs to give the poor the bare necessities didn't produce this effect... abusing the system so
they can get more and more of that gov't funding in hud reimbursements, medicaid/medicare, childcare, ect, along with of course, avoiding increasing
the wages of so many because well, why should they, the gov't will take care of them just fine did this!!!
you tell the recipients to get educated, well fine, that's just gonna draw more money from your pockets into colleges and universities, into the
paychecks of not their instructors, but rather their upper managements... and the best result will be that the person might find a job at the end
that pays a living wage, but then it leaves an opening for someone else to fill that doesn't pay anything close to a living wage... which still needs
to be filled more than likely because society wants the services or goods that were being provided!
you want to force them into jobs, okay, but then you money is being diverted into the childcare industry so the children they were taking care of will
have care while they work in a low wage job that doesn't lead anywhere and they still need gov't benefits... not to mention that you are sending out
a mass of people, who really don't care how much the earn, because well, the gov't will still be giving them help, and they will be competing for jobs
with those who aren't getting any help but need that extra money to add to another income to reach that living wage.. or maybe the employer sees the
chance to eliminate some people who were getting paid more and hire from this mass of people you just sent out for a lesser wage.
nope, our system isn't capitalism, it's not socialism, it would be better if it was one of the two, but it's neither. it's a mixture of the two, bent
to serve a fascist agenda.
