Thirty-two U.S. embassy workers in Cambodia fired over alleged sharing of pornography

Some more clean up of individuals that infest every strata of a society. When you represent a country you are supposedly held to a higher standard.. Or... that is the way it was explained to me long long ago... many things have changed since then IMO by reading the news..

Porn is porn and like many I say so what...but you are crazy if caught at work unless you want to make the funny papers.... Under 18 coupled with all the claims of child abuse the USA has thrown at Cambodia, and now this... Talk about egg on your face !!

What also makes this bad is Cambodia and the USA are at odds over Cambodian claims that USA NGOs are trying to undermine and over throw the present regime.. I do not doubt the Cambodia claims when looking at the history of such acts by the CIA/USA. But also Cambodia is doing some serious suck up with China and trying to say "No" to all USA influence..

PHNOM PENH (Reuters) - The United States embassy in Cambodia has fired 32 people after they were allegedly caught sharing pornographic material in a non-official chat group, several sources familiar with the matter said on Friday.

Four sources told Reuters that pornographic videos and photographs, including some featuring people under the age of 18, were shared in a Facebook Messenger chat group.

From what I remember Cambodia has a very "low" threashold for pornography. It' like what was considered porn in the 1880's in the US IIRC.

All S.E. Asia has changed greatly in the last 45/50 years. Many in power want to take their countries back to a moral time that only exist in the feeble dream memories... That coupled with the Muslim influence with regards to drinking and even playing darts or cards has changed many countries probably forever...

Much of this is just another way for TPTB to bust people and get money from them. We just had a woman who was selling water guns .... She now faces 10 years in prison and about a $40,000 USD fine.. Probably because she started cutting into the profit margin of one of the well connected.... Her type water guns were declared weapons of war even though the same make and model can be found in every department store .. Her guns might harm eyes if a direct hit was the claim... What about the zillion other water guns which are bigger and better and certainly can shoot farther ? Oh she is not protected or connected... Same stuff all over the world

You do know this would be locals that worked at the embassy. Most foreign embassies hire locals for everything from security maintainance and secretarial services. Do to the fact they were fired instead of investigated and shipped home means they were locals

I think it was cambodia where something like 10 tourists were recently arrested for "public pornography", these were british college students on spring break who were simply dancing "provocatively" at a local bar. They weren't dressed provocativelly even, simply tee-shirt tank tops and shorts, and dancing like you would see at any small local bar from 12-2am - so basically nothing that we all haven't seen 1000x times if you go to the bars, or did.

This pornography charge could be as simple as bathing suit pics I'm guessing.

It sounds like they were sharing stuff on non-work related sites, which should be no one's business, but if they were viewing it on US govt computers then yes that's a firing offense.

It's not porn if they are underage it's paedophilia!

Then again the legal age of consent in Cambodia is 15 regardless of gender or sexual orientation.

So whilst exceptionally morally ambiguous on there part technically it may not even be illegal in Cambodia.

Yes it really is a shame Bernie was screwed by Clinton; I love the smell of socialism in the morning...smells like rotten starving flesh ..

In every SE Asian country I have visited it is illegal to watch porn but you can get yourself a prostitute for as low as $30 within 30 minutes regardless of where you are.
