I'd share a pint with you but 2 problems. There's an ocean between us and I don't drink. Unless you've got Beck's non alcoholic.

That's interesting

I noticed a certain TV advert has recently been starting with the same 'bing' noise as getting a facebook message, and I'm ashamed to say it has made me look up a few times, and snapped me out of whatever I was thinking at the time.

Wow I have some fantastic discussions on public facebook pages as well as my friends feeds. Yes there are trolls with no mod's on fb, but discussion is out there. I almost prefer public discussion on fb because on some local pages say I'm being trolled I just invite them to a friendly pint at any pub in town to chat further. They usually shut up then.

Because my identity is public on fb I don't need mod's, I'll meet anyone for a pint to chat further. But the anonymity of ATS and other forums encourages keyboard warrior stuff, so requires mods. The anonymity makes the difference.

None of my friends put anything on facebook that is controvercial. Most of what is said is about the kids, school, sports, and where they are eating out at the time. When someone puts something political up, not many people respond. When a cat or dog article is put up, there are many replies. People post when they have to go to the hospital, it is a form of communication mostly and a place to post cute stuff.

Mixed bag with my friends, have some fantastic banter and heated discussion as well. My favourite place on fb is a local page with a few tens of thousands of followers. It is intense with the arguments and trolls, I love it at times, especially when mates see it in their newsfeed and offer backup lol.

I switch between ATS, Twitter, and Facebook though...it's been an ATS month for me so far, but I can hear public identity argument calling me from fb as I type this.

EDIT
If I'm honest, I'm actually more 'in your face' and blunt on public facebook pages because there are no mods stopping me. If a troll wants to have it then meet me anywhere instead of acting all hard behind a screen. I love that about the public internet identity as opposed to anonymous.

ATS or anywhere else, I don't assume I'm anonymous. In fact, I know I'm not anonymous here and that's what causes me anxiety. LOL

In real life I'm eating a six course meal 25 hours a day, yet I feel I need to come here for dessert.

I think I'm addicted.

Haha, I'm kinda addicted myself but I switch my drug from ATS to FB & Twitter every few days or weeks.
You are right about the anonymity thing, of course government and ISP's know who I am on ATS if they want to, but on facebook the people I'm interacting with do as well.
ATS is essentially anonymous as far as users are concerned with each other. It makes a massive difference in my opinion.

I have a relative who runs a county jail. Cellphone addiction is getting worse than drugs. The withdrawals in jail are nearly the same and it is causing lots of problems. The good news is the cops can tease you about it because it's not a recognized health issue yet. People are more than willing to get in trouble for a phone just like getting caught with drugs

I hadn't considered this but see how it could be a huge problem. Do you have any references to look into?

I made a post saying I couldn’t post
I wasn’ t desperate or freaking out, just seems logical to alert them to the situation so it might be fixed. I barely come on here at all.

Anyways I get what you’re saying. Everybody is addicted to something on the internet.

Agreed, and I'm not immune. I have two phones, one an Android, the other a £12 little brick that only texts and calls. I leave my Android at home when I visit friends or socialise whatever, and everyone knows to only call the little brick's number if they need me.
Stops me being distracted by the siren call of digital media when I'm with people in real life.

You two need to try this if you like Becks. You won´t touch any becks anymore, if you laid your hands on this here:

Yeah, you´ll grin like a pretzel, too, if you had one of these. It´s only 5.1% though. Must be something in the water

Edit: They brew since 1791....I repeat 1791...

No good for "Intrepid" then because he doesn't drink alcohol, he likes the non alcoholic Becks.
...and wow, what an old brewery!

Could this German beer be the cure for ATS addiction? Or would it just be a case of switching one addiction for another?

Y'see, young 'uns, I been round since the Eenternet was still poopin yeller and we had to chat it up through all kinds of BBS services and sech. I seen websites and chat boards come an' go. Thing is, if these places wanna keep my business, then it's up to them to keep 'em runnin nice and smooth. I was posting to another site last year and they got all extra politically touchy and even though I don't give two craps about politics, it got bad enough that I had to take my clicks somewheres else.

You get over it. I don't know about it bein worse than hard drugs, but if it is, sign me up for some heroin, 'cause I guess I can kick that like a busted candy machine.

Haha good reply!

I'll give a hall pass for the odd day or few hours of disruption to normal service, it's not like I pay to be on ATS so no bad in my head.

Yeah, they are cute. It seems much more relaxing on Facebook. That is probably why most people go there.
