Why cannot the Super power of Russia, who is working directly with the Syrian regime prevent these ignorant chemical attacks in the region ... What if any is or could be the benefit

Exactly, what would be the benefit for Russia?
Nothing.

What would be the benefit for Assad?
Nothing.

Those with an anti Assad or anti Russian agenda, however..

In economic crime you follow the money, in geopolitics you ask who benefits.
And it sure ain't Russia.

So it was fault of the West in your perception?

Interesting thing about the rebellion... when it started it was overwhelmingly Syrian... now its mostly foreign fighters.

When you look at it in that light, who benefits the most from a chemical attack and that is probably the culprit.

Or it could be the rebels themselves.

These are lots not much different from their (official) ISIS counterparts; they demonstrably have no scruples taking out hordes of civilians whenever it serves them.

And it serves them way better, than it would serve Assad (or Russia or Iran).
