Sucks for Europe, potentially... total non-issue here stateside. [/quote

Do you really believe that if conflict broke out between us against China and Russia that these two super powers wouldn’t attack us soil? You must be out of your damn mind or living in a secluded bubble under a rock somewhere

I believe that our current president would vitrify Moscow and Beijing within 10 minutes of any direct attack on US soil from China and Russia. Let that sink in for a moment... I don't believe the United States would ever start a nuclear war, but I sure as hell believe the United States would use nuclear warheads on any developed nation stupid enough to directly assault the mainland United States. Why? Because we can and because it would ultimately save American lives. The United States fights wars, we don't host them unless we're having a family squabble and our guests are other Americans with a differing ideology or motivation. A foreign nation has attacked US soil directly once in recorded history... ask Nagasaki and Hiroshima how that worked out for them. Had the US had nuclear capabilities when Pearl Harbor initially occurred, the entirety of Japan would have laid in abject ruin within 24 hours of Hawaii alerting DC to what had happened.

We don't have the world's most expensive military for the purpose of parades and color presentation at sporting events, we have it because we will either kick someone's ass up between their ears when needed or we will split atoms a couple hundred feet above their parents', their lovers', and their children's heads.

Russia and China together taking in the US in a conventional war would be like a baby fighting Muhammed Ali.

Don't kid yourself. We don't have the numbers to contain both of them conventional in a short wrap up, and we don't have the will to stop them elsewise.

Neither can compete with the consumer society of America, unless someone making 30 bucks a month can be a consumer too...lol
As someone looking into the US from outside it seems that tptb would love to see a civil war inside the US . Now we know from the TV what can happen if a store starts to run low on Cabbage Patch dolls but can you imagine if all of a sudden the US was deprived of its Chinese morphine ? Amazon might shut down . Ebay US would have to go underground and become part of the deep web .

Well this isn't good.
I doubt this is a surprise to anyone.
I think this was always assumed by most.

But to see it reported...

Dunno, starting to feel like the 80's all over again.

(Yahoo.com)-China's military leadership has pledged its support to Russia as tensions between Moscow and the West further deteriorate into diplomatic isolation, economic sanctions and dueling defense drills.

In his first visit to Russia, newly appointed Chinese Defense Minister Wei Feng attended the seventh Moscow International Security Conference accompanied by a delegation of other high-level military officials. Emphasizing that his trip was coordinated directly with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Wei said that he had two major messages for Russia at a time when both nations were attempting to modernize their armed forces and strengthen their hands in global affairs in spite of U.S. fears.

www.yahoo.com...

Complete story there^

This is nothing new! During the Korean war the Russians supplied pilots and aircraft to the communist Koreans. The Chinese suppied 250,000 infantry and supplies.

During Vietnam, the Russians supplied aircraft, SA-2 & SA-7 missiles to Hanoi. There were technictians from several eastern block countries and Cuba. The Chinese were going through a famine which killed 10 million people but still gave aid to the communists.

Time to shut down all those China Economic Zones that are all over the USA, controlled by China. Back in 2010 there were plans to build a Chinese city near milan michigan.... Bought the land but the story dropped off the radar fast....

The problem for China is that Trump is leveraging nice to haves and China is leveraging food... Lets see who can last the longest without. Our nice to haves can easily be made somewhere else. Business just flows in the path of most profit, that is why we are halfway around the world in China in the first place. If that profit river shifts so does business.

In a conventional war, both Russia and China lack any kind of projection. Russia has one aircraft carrier that's constantly breaking down while China has none. The truth is that despite their size, China and Russia are regional powers at best. At least when it comes to military.

The only thing that would allow them to wage war against the US proper are ICBMs. I don't think either or them are crazy enough to launch nukes and they wouldn't be able to win a war just by lobbing conventional warheads.

I read years ago that this would happen.

China & Russia join forces against the US.

I used to keep files & links - - but, don't anymore - - so not sure where I read it.

As percentage of GDP US exports to China comprise less than a percent.

Compare that with exports to the US market representing 4-5% of China's GDP.

And with a $350,000,000,000.00+ imbalance of trade, you can see who stands to lose the most in a tit-for-tat tariff scenario.

With some 20 industries already overcapacity in China (ie they have more factories, more workers, making more "stuff" than the market needs) and an already stagnant economy, China needs to keep the US markets as open as possible.

We've paid for their resurgence, and they've resisted every attempt at actually opening their markets to foreign products. We've never used our leverage for a better deal.

People do not realize that China already has tariffs on American goods. This is not so much tit for tat as it is balancing what China has been allowed to do for so very long. The fact that China loves our soy bean and only in the last decade has gone to crazy levels in the consumption...this is where I say good luck if about 40% of their huge consumption that comes from America is changed.

The geographical position of the US makes it almost impossible for a ground war, been that way since we became a country. We would also dominate air superiority and so the skies would be owned by us and that would also make it impossible for them to have any chance at winning a war.

I think they all know this...lol

Depends on what the object of their war is. What if it is just to take the Spratleys and Vietnam, Thailand, maybe Korea, etc as a new "Chinese Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere"? How long do you think it would take to beat them back given our geographical remoteness, as you've noted?

There is nothing to contain, they have literally no way to get to the US mainland. It would not be a quick war, but we can get to them, they can't get to us.

We have a huge naval presence there already. They would for sure make initial gains, but in the end they would lose, and lose big.

The statement is purely political, Russia just signed a deal with Vietnam (who is not a friend to China), China and Russia have a pretty rocky past this is just another maneuver for leverage in the tariff dispute.

It would truly be a world war, but we and maybe the Brits to a point, are about the only nations with Strategic capabilities...AND they would lose their #1 customer worth Trillions...

As a side note...if they went to war with us we could zero out any debt and capital they might have with the US and how many more Trillions is that?

Makes more sense for them to do a ground war against Russia. Cull the population of lets say 500 million males and take all of the natural resources Russia has... Win win for them.

Our allies in the region will be thrilled to hear that we don't care if their cities and resources are overrun as long as they aren't attacking Chicago.
We were in and out of Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan in a couple weeks afterall. Russia and China combined should be a cake walk, I'm sure.
