They loosened a lot of the restrictions laid out by the Insurrection Act in 2007. Then they rolled a lot of it back in 2008.

What does he mean by military? The National Guard? Or is he actually talking about deploying the military on US soil?

us military on the border

In May 2006, President George W. Bush, in "Operation Jumpstart," ordered up to 6,000 National Guard troops to the states along the Mexican border to support the Border Patrol in controlling illegal immigration and related criminal activities on U.S. soil. On July 19, 2010, President Obama ordered an additional 1,200 Guard troops to the southern border. While this buildup was substantial and controversial, it did not require Obama to suspend the Posse Comitatus Act.

On Oct. 25, 2005, the House of Representatives and Senate enacted a joint resolution (H. CON. RES. 274) clarifying Congress' stance on the effect of the Posse Comitatus Act on the use of the military on U.S. soil. In part, the resolution states "by its express terms, the Posse Comitatus Act is not a complete barrier to the use of the Armed Forces for a range of domestic purposes, including law enforcement functions, when the use of the Armed Forces is authorized by Act of Congress or the President determines that the use of the Armed Forces is required to fulfill the President's obligations under the Constitution to respond promptly in time of war, insurrection, or other serious emergency."

So yea...

If Trump and Obama and Bush do the same thing is it a good idea or bad idea?

I assume its needed.. Maybe not enough funding/manpower for local authority to handle.

Its a real issue.. Its been a real issue..

Think about human trafficking for example..

The military was never intended to be deployed on US soil. It was supposed to be up to the states, and the militia by extension, to defend the US on US soil.

Just think of the panic that would ensue if Obama had talked about deploying federal troops internally (Jade Helm comes to mind).

But now it's a great idea.

Isn't the key difference in who they are deployed against? That being US citizens vs illegals compromising our border.

Or, to put it another way, Obama already did this and you didn't care.

Mentioned it in another thread, I had friends in the marines that were sent to the border under the guise of an exercise with the purpose of interdicting drug runners.

Surely if you are being invaded you do deploy the military no?

I'd support this over sending them overseas to fight in BS wars. Protecting us means being here, not on the other side of the world.

First let me say I don't known the right move but with the military down there this could go so bad

They're paid agitators right?
So what happens when they agitate and bullets start flying and within seconds there is footage of it all over the world?
Then Mr rational and we'll spoken orange man does his agitation bit?

Not good but all the tough guys in this country love it so there is that

He is not invading California. He is defending the US border. No reason that troops cannot be mobilized. I would not care the POTUS in office I would defend this decision.

Jade Helm was a training exercise. They weren't deployed against anyone. Not only that, the exercise took place in pretty much the same area Trump will be deploying troops.

This is why I elected him. He acts instead of talking about it.

I don't care if the Constitution forbids it. It needs to be done and he is doing it.

Only in the case where civil unrest has extended to the point where the state can no longer handle the issue.

Last time I checked the border states are still operating perfectly fine.

The military is going to protect American citizens from illegal aliens?

Lol, right. Kind of like how American soldiers protected my freedoms by guarding poppy fields and installing oil rigs in Iraq and Afghanistan.

If it were a matter of pragmatism and/or safety our military would be escorting the entirety of Congress out of their cushioned gravy train, would be stationed at schools, and would be all over urban inner cities.

Jeff Sessions clarified that executing drug dealers should extend to state-level legally operating medicinal businesses, but right - we need military sitting on the border with tanks to protect my freedoms.

Trump is just playing his base like usual.
