Probably the greatest guitar song ever written ( well in my opinion anyway )

Written 41 years ago and recorded May 1978. Where as that time gone?

Just sit back and listen to the greatness that is " Sultans Of Swing " from Dire Straits.

The Dire Straights are amazing... back when they first came to some attention, I was a music snob and they were a form of rock I didn't usually like as much as the more dangerous underground sound, but ... wow.

All their stuff is fantastic and drips with talent ...both technical and artistic, but I love the "Making Movies" album most of all.

Anyway, yeah, 40 years... sucks, but at least we all got old, right? Many of us did not.

"Money for Nothing" is the only one I liked by Dire Straits. But once I learned about the "poke" at another artist , that is one of my favorites, I never cared for the group afterwards.
I was more into the Oz Man and Black Sabbath.

That was the first track I heard at college when in a bar. They had satellite TV (which my parents didn't have), so everyone watched MTV. There are other videos I remember watching and can't find. My "iPod" consisted of a little Saishio boombox which could fit inside a jacket pocket and could play tape cassettes.

I had a feeling of what it was before I even read the Op.

Sultans is just jamin. Epic song.

ETA, it's aged like fine wine, or cheese....

That was a great ALBUM(or cassette).
I was into Sabbath, Zepp, Deep Purple, etc, harder stuff but talent shines through musical tastes. 40 years. Damn.

I still remember the first time I came across a song from high school on the radio, jammed to it until the end, then heard the announcer tell me I was listening to the "oldies" station.

Yeah. Now I hear "oldies" and I was married at the time. Cripes. This is an oldie to me.

Great song! I like it! Sometimes I don't think it is possible for the modern musicians to write such songs.
