Virtual or virtue?

Like I said, protests are for the sake of those protesting. Your rebuttal is about as self-concerned as theirs. If it fires you up, it's your own doing.

I guess "virtue"

Is it a thing like an iPad or something?

It's some sort of 'pad!'

As a white guy; "I have black friends..."

As a straight guy; "I hang out at gay bars..."

Essentially appealing to emotion and raise your own social standing with another social group.

To take a conspicuous but essentially useless action ostensibly to support a good cause but actually to show off how much more moral you are than everybody else.

Saying you love or hate something to show off what a virtuous person you are, instead of actually trying to fix the problem.

Oh!

Like hash-tag activism!

If you hashtag something that means you care and are. . . like "real" and stuff!

Thank you.

Exactly.

#themoreyouknow

Boils down to egotistical one-up-manship. Serves no purpose in an argument, however it's been the trend.

Like;

"I once marched at a rally so I'm better" or "I once knew a guy who fed the homeless at a soup kitchen, so I know their pain".

This actually reminds me of Hitler and his Brownshirts.

They are using our children against us.

“The state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation.”

― Adolf Hitler

Except you cannot have a discussion. They have elevated these kids to the level of absolute moral authorities. You cannot disagree with them or else you are told you have literal blood on your hands. That is not a discussion.

Freakin' Emma Gonzalez is now a modern Joan of Arc!

What does that tell you?

I'm an old man.

I have seen countless time, the term, "Virtual Signaling".

Could someone please explain it to me.

Use small words. I'm slow.

For Old Men , Virtual Signaling is when you Think a Pretty Young Girl is Checking You out in the Supermarket , but in Reality is just looking to see if Her Deli Number has come up yet......

Well-written and sadly too true. I've said over and over here all the people focused on the NRA and guns are actually barriers to progress toward solving the real issues. These kids are being used by a small group of people with an agenda. The rest are just useful idiots. The distraction away from honest conversation that could get at the underlying issues is actually dangerous and costs more lives. But it's not about the lives, it's about the agenda.

To heck with what 'they' Say. We're actually having a discussion on this thread. So, we're having a discussion. Don't worry. The NRA and several other organizations are talking LOUD and clear from the other direction. It's okay.

Let them vent and we'll have the discussion.

I am wearing thermal sweat pants.

Therefore, literally, I am still hot.

But my thighs get sticky.

With all this attention being paid them looks like a nerve was hit big time.

There is no quicker way to get a response from me than to try to limit my freedom. When an organized group attempts to steal rights from their fellow citizens I see them as a threat.

But I see that it could be a slippery slope.

The problem is, that's exactly what they're hoping for.

When they give us that inch, that bump stock ban, we will take a mile.

I don't know. Except that I did agree with the Bump Stock Ban. I'm okay with some better background checks, age restrictions and data base linkage or longer wait times. I don't think they'll start taking guns...that will never happen.

But if they get that, then we better have a huge discussion on mental health and an increase in funding.
