Our government operates as a constitutional republic with democratically elected representatives. You should understand at least that much.

So The U.S. is not a democracy ?

How very strange.
I know. In other words, we're not a direct democracy, but a form of democracy, a representative democracy.

Looks and sounds like a Democracy to me.

Pssst Have a word with Seagull. He thinks you don't like in a Democracy .

It’s not. And you wouldn’t like it if it was.

So you're not a Democratic Country?

Explains why The NRA and other big business have some much power over Government. All makes sense now.

We elect our representatives democratically. And every now and then they let us vote on certain issues.

Sounds like a bit of a miss mash to me.

I don’t know what a mismash is.

Here.

If something is a mishmash, it is a confused mixture of different types of thing

Rights that are given can be taken away for the right reason. Every single gun rampage on its own is a right reason to repeal the 2nd amendment and to to bring in highly restrictive gun control in line with saner nations. I couldn't care less if your right to own a gun is infringed. Innocent lives are more important than your individual right, so the sooner the 2nd amendment is expunged from the constitution, the better for America.

It's time to grow up. It's time to question the mentality of every single person who believe they need a gun, and also to look at their neuroses...because it is not sane to want a gun, there's something wrong with you inside.

Democracy is "mob rule"
A Democratic style Republic is not.

This is not a political thread so I won't be debating in this thread. Share your vibes or go play in the trump piles.

Really ? This is not a political thread by your own admission . Yet you make it one. And forbid anyone else ?
Fascism much ?

The issues are elders attached to their guns and gun laws. Who fear changing political agenda due to losing their voter base. Seems more toolish then anything...

It's not just that, big organisations target those fears...no need to guess who, yet and all those big organisations are cosy to foreign influence through the back door.

I am more informed than you think.

As far as the mob itself is concerned, little doubt in the knowledge that the openly pro-Communist and militant Marxist Workers.org was the primary power-player in the recent mob rule of Durham

I've been watching. I'm very impressed with what those young adults have been able to accomp!ish.
Perhaps this time will be different. No one is asking to outlaw guns. They/ we just want sensible gun regulations. No one needs an assault rifle unless you're a solider.

That's cool. Not one assault rifle been used in a school shooting in the States. Yet you want it banned to keep people from using them in school shootings. Makes sense.

The problem is that the 2nd Amendment--nor any other amendment for that matter--bestow anything (see the 9 amendment). It expresses the codification of the rights that must be recognized. What you are referring to are legal privileges. Only that which can be granted and can be revoked. Rights are not revocable, because the government..i.e. other people...meaning you... cannot tell me what I have a right to do so long as I--personally-- do not attempt violence to your person.

It is a democratic republic...the best of both worlds.
We are a republic. With a constitution. Who elects our representatives democratically.

You are either a democracy or not.

There is no half way. So which is it ?

You really are showing your ignorance.
There are many forms of democracy and the founding fathers specifically wanted to avoid the type that leads to mob rule, which is a serious flaw in a pure democracy.

Deny Ignorance.

Oh, I see...

In order to practice my rights, I have to ask. I see.

I actually meant an idea or two with some actual merit.

Your rights are changeable as in any other democratic country. You still have the biblical right to covet with an Ox as long as it's not your neighbours, it doesn't mean you won't wake up with a horrible disease to your little weapon.

Rights are not changeable or else they would not be rights--something that is inalienable. Privileges are changeable. Elvis_Is_Dead, feel free to enjoy your ox, I guess, since that seems to be your thing?

No, our rights are amendable as in a constitutional republic.

Amendable / changeable please tell us the difference?

Amendable - it requires ratification by a majority of the States, not national popular vote or federal legislation.

Changeable as a democratic nation - depending on the nation, it could be done by writ or a popular vote.

Bottom line, the USA amendment system is designed to prevent the whim of the emotionally ignorant from trampling over the rights of others.

Whether you like it or not the United States is still a democratic country, not at all that different to the UK and most other western countries.
