“It’s heartening to see Congress reject the worst symbol of Trump’s bigotry and racism by prohibiting a concrete wall along the border,” said Paulo Lopes, a public lands policy specialist at the Center for Biological Diversity. “But jaguars and other wildlife can’t get over a wall, no matter what it’s made of. Congress should not sanction the building of border walls and fences on public lands or anywhere else.”

The first planned sections of the Trump border wall would tear through public lands, ranchlands, national historic sites and the National Butterfly Center in the Rio Grande Valley. Congress only spared the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge from these destructive construction activities.

“Our environment continues to pay a staggering cost for the border wall and the infrastructure that comes with it,” Lopes said. “Now that Congress has given Trump this down-payment, he’ll only keep demanding more.”

A recent study by the Center identified more than 90 endangered or threatened species that would be threatened by wall construction along the 2,000-mile U.S.-Mexico border.

Stupidity at its finest.

Why not use laser sensors and webcams? Then you can dispatch mobilized teams or something like that..

" Got $1.6 Billion to start Wall on Southern Border, rest will be forthcoming. Most importantly, got $700 Billion to rebuild our Military, $716 Billion next year...most ever. Had to waste money on Dem giveaways in order to take care of military pay increase and new equipment.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 22, 2018"

I don't know, did someone ask for almost 1 trillion dollars to be spent on the military?

Can anyone tell me what's bigoted and racist about a border wall?

Animals will be impacted?

I just can't find the logic sometimes... Immigrants were "allowed" to sneak over to our country illegally for years, to the point that it's out of control, and now one of the most successful solutions needs to be aborted because we might endanger some wild animals?

1,954 miles
Following the Boundary Treaty of 1970 between Mexico and the United States that settled all the pending boundary disputes and uncertainties related to the Rio Grande (Río Bravo del Norte) border, the national continental border extends 1,954 miles (3,145 km), excluding the maritime boundaries of 18 miles (29 km)

For the sake of the environment why not build watching post every mile or spaced one mile apart where permitted.
Then hire roaming personell to manage the areas between with above & below ground and avian sensory technologies to assist them?
Should lower cost and increase employment...

Democrats think all illegal immigrants are Mexicans.

So the wall will be so effective, not even animals will be able to cross the border. Sounds good to me, plus 99.9% of all species that have existed have already gone extinct. Survival of the fittest I guess.

You can have laser sensors and remote cameras that automatically shoots the location. Then you can have software to recognize humans or not.

Every paved road, fence line, aqueduct and concrete surface, is environmentally destructive.

Mexicans are an invasive species to the American West. The illegals cause damage to the environment, American economy or American health(ask kate steinle‘s family)

We wouldn’t need a border wall if we weren’t being illegally invaded on our southern border. Blame Mexico for this because we can’t shoot people coming here illegally so we need a wall.

Sounds plausible

Can also have drones flying between the watch post with the sensors on them.

When it gets cold, I like a Mexican vacation for a month or two. Hope to have a condo in my future in this beautiful small village. Extraordinary fishing!!

im with you.

a wall is just a new challenge, not a solution.

i think our immigration policies need a massive reform, one helmed by a sane person or body which understands socio-eco-political strategies better than the mexican government and us government.

Democrats think all illegal immigrants are Mexicans.

You DO know that the demographics of illegals that come from places other than Mexico or further south don't pass through the Mexico border right? They arrive and stay by other means. So your weird ad hominem aside, walls aren't going to stop illegal immigration. But a wall is good to target a certain segment of illegals. A segment that primarily comes from a certain country just south of us.

Mexicans No Longer Make Up Majority Of Immigrants In U.S. Illegally

Indians are the fastest-growing illegal immigrant population in the US

Maybe you should follow your own critique about Democrats and illegals? Because a wall isn't the fix to the problem.

I dont gets what’s raciest about keeping illegal imigrants out? Mexicans can still come to America and even become Americans the legal way...you know like they are supposed to.

Didn’t some one in another thread say that all illegals farm and pay their taxes, that was hilarious...”Hillaryous” oopsies coined a new word.

The wall will do less environmental damage than the illegal aliens will do coming to and living in the US.
