What this article is aimed at, is to prepare the masses for the inevitable meteor debris field we will head through as Planet X approaches. The drip drip tactic has picked up pace. You can clearly see the uptick in meteorite trends over the years, increasing exponentially all the time.

Will NASA nuke it? I doubt it! As they are part of the establishment that wants to utilize the debris bombardment for population control.

We actually don't have long until Planet x arrives, so I don't see how they will have enough time to put their plan into effect. Weeks or Months until things go south.

Thanks for bringing ATS back to the doom porn roots! We desperately need a positive break from the political covfefe .

Weeks or Months until things go south.

You've been saying that for 2 1/2 years now.

In fact, in your thread you linked to (2 1/2 years ago), you said it was only a mater of days.

Pretty sure that any large celestial object (like a planet) that's only days/weeks/months away would be clearly visible to the average person on the street, even without the aid of a telescope or binocs at this point.

Not long until it arrives? You have been claiming for quite some time that it was visible next to the Sun.

How fast is it travelling towards us? Do you think it might have broken down or something?

In "weeks or months" when things have not gone south will you pop up, yet again, and claim that it will be on it's way soon?

Is it coming by second class post or something?

I have a better idea. How about just MINE the damn thing. We have 100 years to do it.... It didn't take that long to build the empire state building, we can sure deconstruct one in less time.

And mining it would most likely alter its orbit long term, so maybe altered orbit would be one that is less likely to hit us....

...Then again, the orbit might alter in a way that it becomes more likely to hit us.

By the time this piddly asteroid arrives we will all be long since dead because apparently Planet X will be along to do it's doomy thing in a few months or so. I read that somewhere on here so it must be true. Its running a bit late but these things do take their time.

117 years!
in 20 years we could build and send a ion drive rocket.
that then pushes it side ways. easy!
even if it takes 50 years it has 47 years to do it.

Mining it would make it disappear or at very least, make it so much smaller that it wont matter.

The school children can hide under their desks while NASA works their magic. I won't hold my breath on this one being successful. I not sure it is possible without it being located inside the asteroid.a reply to: Skywatcher2011

They are sending a probe there to sample it to see what it is made of.

ATS, Space Exploration: NASA Osiris Rex mission.

Here is an even better option since we have the time.

Even just painting the surface a different color on one half would change the thermal properties and change its orbit,” Michael Moreau, NASA’s OSIRIS-REx Flight Dynamics System Manager, told Gizmodo. That would involve literally sending a spacecraft to somehow change the color of some of the asteroid.

There’s lots we don’t know about asteroids just yet, which is why NASA has sent the probe OSIRIS-REx toward Bennu. This mission aims to scoop up and return a sample of the rock in 2023.

Gizmodo.com - Instead of Nuking an Asteroid Headed Toward Earth, We Could Just Splash It With Paint.

Or heat up one side with a laser. A nuke goes in all directions (ah! square degrees! How I loath thee!), so unless they can make the explosion like a shaped charge in the direction of Bennu, most of the energy will just radiate away in all the other directions.

I would do the paint thing first. White on one side, Vanta Black on the other!
