The risk is worth the meeting. Doing nothing doesn't resolve any of those items in your list.

I think everyone is skeptical in some respect which is exactly why this is a good thing and needs to happen.

IMO of course.

Trump needs to keep his trap shut and listen to the experts on diplomacy and not make a jerk of himself as he has done many times before

Pardon me, but who the hell are you to say what the president should or shouldn't do in this case?

Trump's leadership and maximum pressure made this possible, it might piss off his critics but he's doing well on his own here.

Winning!

Probably a smart move.

But we can always hope for peace.

I have my doubts as to how this meeting, IF it happens, will turn out. People seem to be forgetting:
...

4. Why would Kim suddenly do a complete 360? What would he have to gain? He's been working his nukes and other wmd's for a long time. Why would he suddenly give up those programs and let them go to waste?

I share your skepticism. The only way I think Un is serious this time is if China told him the US isn't #ing kidding, if you don't stop the nuclear program they're going to strike, and we're not going to help you.

I hope that Kim is being genuine (Trump too). But my guts tells me that we must not let our guard down.

We'll see what will happen in due time.

And there has to be a way of doing it to appear amicable where no one has to eat crow, but appear champions..

This tariff deal is starting to make sense.

It places pressure on China, along with the sanctions to North Korea.

If China really pushed North Korea for peace, maybe Trump will ease off on the trade war.

And... it could have something to do with this:
200 Died in North Korea Nuclear Test Site Accident: Reports

About 200 people may have died when tunnels collapsed at a North Korean nuclear test site in October, TV Asahi reported, citing unidentified people familiar with North Korean matters.

Kim Jong Un’s regime detonated an underground nuclear device near the Punggye-ri site in northeast North Korea on Sept. 3, setting off an earthquake with a magnitude of about 6.3 that was felt as far away as China. About 100 people got caught in a collapsed tunnel around Oct. 10, while the others were trapped in a further collapse during a rescue attempt, TV Asahi said.

China warned North Korea on Sept. 20 that further nuclear tests could blow the top off a mountain and spark a potential catastrophic collapse at the site, the South China Morning Post reported Oct. 28.

North Korea is endangering China, with radiation leaks, geographical disasters, etc.

Putting this together with heavy sanctions, and NK just being a general major PIA, I'm sure China has had enough.

Quite true, a lot of things could be coming together to make this happen. We'll see how it goes.

Our intelligence community say that Kim is, quite simply, running out of money. Country and Personally.

Stormy Daniels? There is no need for distraction there. It is not as if he was President getting a blowjob from his intern. Get real! That is simply a pro- democrat distraction and has no basis in Trump being presidential.

That is just another reason why I believe NK is wanting to meet Trump. How can a man portrayed to be so narcissistic, playboy and greedy be able to stump everyone and be a leader of the USA?

Perhaps they are realizing there is more to Trump than the gossip?

This is unprecedented.

Should be interesting. A face-to-face.

Pundits will have weeks of second-guessing, and advice for Trump.

One thing, well two things I really hope and pray for?

One - Trump doesn't misstep and pound his chest in that meeting with Rocket Man.

Please - be diplomatic and firm, but congenial.

Second? When they televise the meeting? Make sure Kim's chair is high enough not to make him out as a midget next to our President, and, don't allow the cameras to film his short little legs dangling off the chair.

Peace

Lets be serious, of course he'll be diplomatic and firm, very congenial.

In essence, this could be viewed as somewhat of a real world political test. Right now, I bet people behind the scenes are scrambling for the best information and protocol building they could find.

Interesting times we live in, I believe the light is shining a bit brighter.

You are talking about Un. He gets along with Dennis Rodman.

I think Un will relate better to plain speaking, honest, down-to-earth discussion.

I like Trump's style. He surprises people, keeps them on their toes, and in the long run they know that he says what he is thinking. He is not speaking with a snake's tongue, just saying what they want to hear. That's refreshing.

Oh, now that you brought it up, I wonder if there will be any kind of out reach to Rodman on his experiences with Un? He's probably got a good idea on the culture and relationship of its people.
