The announcement was made a few hours after the POTUS accepted the request for dialogue with the dictator.

What a timing, huh...

WASHINGTON, March 5 (Yonhap) -- The United States on Monday imposed new sanctions on North Korea for its alleged use of chemical weapons, a move that follows the suspected nerve agent assassination of the North Korean leader's half-brother.

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson determined on Feb. 22 that the North Korean regime has "used chemical weapons in violation of international law or lethal chemical weapons against its own nationals," the State Department said in a notice published in the Federal Register.

It did not elaborate, but the North is suspected of masterminding the killing of leader Kim Jong-un's half-brother, Jong-nam, in a VX nerve agent attack at a Malaysian airport in February last year.

The sanctions include a termination of aid to the North, except for urgent humanitarian needs, a termination of arms sales to the regime, and a denial of any credit or other financial assistance.

The new measures are unlikely to have a major impact as Pyongyang is already under heavy international sanctions for its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs.

But the announcement could serve to underscore the Donald Trump administration's resolve to keep pressure on the regime until it denuclearizes.

The sanctions will be in place for at least one year and until further notice.

Last week the New York Times reported that the North has supplied Syria with materials that can be used to produce chemical weapons. Pyongyang denied the accusation.

I wonder why this isn't getting covered as the past sanctions. Just heard about it now.

What about Turkey? They have been officially using chemical weapons against a sovereign nation as an invader, have been selling them to terrorist groups in Syria who use them against civilians and are still producing more as we speak...

When future generations look back, WE will look like the savages.

No one will want to remember our names.

We killed and ruined more Syrians than Assad ever could. Our chosen task of helping effing Turkey in its conquest of a neighbor is godless.

Only it won't be a 'dialogue'. just a US laundry list of demands, ultimatums and threats.

Be warned NK, the US wants your country, period.

ETA: they will try and talk you out of it, sanction, embargo, blockade and bomb you out of it, but they will not relent until they have you subjugated like all the rest.

Even though the criminal says he's ready to talk, you bang his head against the wall one more time to make sure he doesn't B.S. you...or think that you are a Bullchitter either.

No, its just more posturing by two impotent leaders.

Its a stalemate and will be one until China/Russia gives, or we do.

Countries are divided to facilitate conquering the whole country. The Russians and Chinese didn't start it, the uS did. The Russians and Chinese aren't threatening to bomb the south, they aren''t thousands of miles from home either. This is happening on their borders on the Asian continent.

People should be wary when the US government makes accusations about WMD's.
Next thing you know they'll be saying North Korean milk trucks are mobile chemical weapons factories.
