PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- An Oregon man filed suits Monday claiming Dick's Sporting Goods and Walmart discriminated against the 20-year-old when they refused to sell him a rifle. Dick's and Walmart restricted gun sales to adults 21 and older in the wake of the Florida high school massacre. The 19-year-old accused in the school slaying bought the AR-15 used in the attack legally. Oregon law allows residents to buy shotguns or rifles starting at age 18.

I was hoping that someone would stand up for their rights. These companies created monopolies on goods and now discriminate against people based on age. It is illegal and immoral. I am no smart guy but i know injustice when it happens. Who can honestly say that the actions the major retailers project can not be used to discriminate in the future for other reasons or goods? If they get away with it now then they get away with it later. GOD speed youngsters! May you be provided with the finest and wisest team to keep our country free.

What rights?

The 2nd Amendment does not apply to businesses only the government. A business has the right to decide who it sells guns too.

The 2nd is irrelevant in this case.

We the people what?

A business is NOT government. The 2nd Amendment does not regulate private entities only the government.

The same way as you do not have freedom of speech on ATS and a mod can ban you for talking about certain subjects.

Neither of these businesses have to sell guns, period, and they can refuse a sale of anything to anybody. This is stupid.

Jesus just wait tell you are 21!!!! We all had to wait to drink legally and smoke legally and drive legally and see rated R movies.

You have to be 21 to even get in a casino and gamble in most states.

It is really not that big of a deal.

A 20 year old suing is just ridiculous by the time it goes to trial he will be able to buy one from either place.

So can Dicks sell to a 15 year old then, since they can choose who to sell to?

If the State has determined an age of purchase, stores there have to follow those State's laws, do they not?

Funny how people are demanding the government force business to sell guns...... A govement forcing a private business to sell a product?.......Thats communism...... The OP is asking for communism......

O and before someone points it out, I don't think a shop should be forced to sell wedding cakes to people either.

So it is no big deal for someone to not be alive?

These guns protect your rights and life.

I am so glad idiocy showed up.

ATS does not have a monopoly on speech.

Seems like you would be ok with a corporation stripping away your life one piece at a time.

If you do not stand up for your rights then no one will.

Lol to big to sue

In what way does Dicks have a monopoly on guns sales?

This won’t go anywhere.

People protect their rights and life. A gun is an inanimate object that can’t do anything on its own

Chances are this derpy moron didn't even want to buy a gun there. He's just trying to get #murika famous.

And, no. Businesses have to follow state age minimums, but can put age restrictions above those minimums on whatever they want.

If the kid really wants to 'merikuh pew pew, there's likely countless other businesses he can buy from within a few blocks. And the internet. Nobody is infringing on his rights.

Dicks and Walmart don't on guns either.

Lots of small businesses sell guns.

bs
you misconstrue everything

the op wants people to be able to protect themselves.

why does everyone bring up gay cakes?

if dicks said they would sell gay cakes to everyone but a certain group based on age then that would be discrimination too.

My goodness people think before you post

not true

it is determined by geographic area.

these stores have put out of business many small stores.

either sell to all legal to buy or quit selling and let free market take over

Which only apply to the govement.

The same way as the 1st does not apply on ATS.

No it doesn't.

It applies to private business's.

The wedding cake lawsuit proved it.
