I'm curious. Are Left and Right politics different in the US than here in the UK? I only ask because I am a lefty and I see the Government as the bad guy. I am friends with an abnormally high number of Punks and Anarchists, also left leaning and more against the government than me. When did this switcheroo happen?

Punks and anarchists are closer to a libertarian mindset than the progressive left.

But if you're asking if the American left has jumped off the deep end, for the most part, they have.

Even the American punk scene, for the most part, has gone progressive left, which is all about big government.

Yeah, I went right off Anti-Flag when they signed to the Sony Corporation, it was the antithesis of what they stood for until that point

Cheers for clearing that up...

The mistake the OP makes is to force the topic. It's not 'pro gun' it's pro individual liberty and the right to defend yourself.

Obviously, the cops are only there to arrive after the event and make reports and mop up. You have to be able to defend yourself.

Maybe the OP can stop posting false flag topics and just move to New Jersey or California. No debate there.

Thats my point in response to SouthernForkWay

What about new immigrants with no chance to inherit guns? Explain how 2-3 hundred years from now the citizens will have reliable firearms if the newest one is centuries old?

My response was facetious at best.

Here's an idea for you liberals. Lets ban all guns, and also in the same bill remove term limits for the President so he can serve until death. Sounds good? No? China wants to do this. Now do you believe in the 2nd amendment?

How about we don’t ban guns and don’t allow a president no term limits..

No one wants to ban all the guns..

It is a gop rape fantasy..

That is irrelevant..

I said it is an issue with only one side..

That everyone agrees a ban and confiscation is undoable and no one wants the door to door confiscation of anything..

The left is making a hypothetical argument of “if a magic genie made all the guns disappear. We would be safer..”

Ain’t no magic genies.. so it is all BS..

The military wouldn’t do it and neither would local law enforcement..

There are no warm bodies willing to take the guns..

No just semi-autos which is the lion's share of all freely available ones now, not just the scary looking ones you're so afraid of.

All I know is I just had a more meaningful and intelligent conversation with my cat about gun control than I have ever had with a gun fetishist. a reply to: JoshuaCox

I know why too. Your cat can't talk back which means you would win by default. Even if your cat disagrees, you wouldn't know because you can't comprehend cat.

That should really foster honest conversation and help us come to a workable solution to this problem.

Keep being a barrier to making progress on this and saving lives.

Your cat wasn't able to correct your misconceptions? Gee, that sure sounds like a meaningful conversation.

Those stating that gun confiscation would never happen due to the impacticaility of going door-to-door and physically taking the gun are being short sighted. Money for guns program with no questions asked on how the gun was acquired, tax penalty on your income tax return if records show you own a gun and haven’t turned it in (don’t pay the penalty, tax evasion), no drivers license renewals if you have a gun, warrant for your arrest issued but only enforced if you break another law - turn in your gun or off to prison and/or fine, on and on. When it is MADE inconvienent to own a gun the vast majority of people will fold. Would they get all guns, no, but over time they will get a very large percentage.

This kind of strategy is what they've done in some cities already. Not all of the things you listed, but they have enacted so many regulations and made it so expensive that many people simply can't afford to own one. Which is #ed up because the people who need them the most are poor people living in high crime neighborhoods, many of whom are minorities.

There are a great many things in that document that are, as you say, mackle, which should have been left inviolate. No doubt there are also things within the document that do need changing, but the right of a person to be armed, to go about as such, and the restriction on government that it may not in any way shape or form infringe upon that right, is not one of them.

If you haven’t seen it I posted an episode of radiolab that covers the history of the second amendment. The Supreme Court didn’t even confirm the second amendment meant regular citizens until 2008!!!

The second amendment has only been used to nullify one gun control law in history.. the DC handgun ban in 2008..

Like everything else to do with American conservatism (maybe conservatism inherently since traditions>progress anyways loses long term.. ) it is all based on propaganda..

More importantly, if people do feel that document needs to be changed, an Amendment has to be passed.

A) a voluntary buy back is in no way shape or fashion a threat to anything..

How jaded do you have to be to insist no one else can turn their guns in even if they wanted to..

B) no one is making a tax penalty for gun ownership..

You 100% just pilulled that out of thin air..

Do you know how hard it is to get anything passed Congress and the senate??

Plus literally no one is proposing that and no elected official has ever proposed that..

That is like me saying “well everyone could just decide they wanted to be Muslims and pass Shiria law here voluntarily..”

Sure it doesn’t break the laws of physics, but it is laughable in the real world..

Both the tax thing and the drivers licenses renewal would start a civil war. Just like confiscation would..

It wouldn’t need to start a war, because whoever is proposing that loses whatever election they were proposing it in..

Honestly you would probably have the US legalize child pornography before they legalized some weird gun prohibition that NO ONE WAS WILLING TO ENFORCE...

0% of Americanssupport a ban and confiscation.

It is how the gop gets stupid people to vote for deregulating their corporate masters..

The only thing THAT HAS EVER EVEN BEEN PROPOSED, is a ban on the new sale of assault rifles with a grandfather clause .. which would leave the millions in circulation perfectly legal.

But that doesn’t fire up the yokels now does it???
