They defended 'hunting grounds', their survival depended on game. They defended their right to exist and eat, made the mistake of letting Europeans settle there, though. Because they declared ownership and no trespassing.

The natives thought they were just going to take what they need and move on.

They didn't understand European mind set. To their detriment.

White people build permanent structures, rent them out, charge each other for everything, food, shelter, goods. People starving right outside the front door, didn't matter. People with wealth had way more then they could ever use while whole groups of people go hungry and destitute, die even... in the street!

Natives just didn't get it. Nobody in their tribe goes without food or shelter, ever. Nobody has more than they can use. Everything is divvied up equally, like kills, weapons, shelter. Everyone contributes to make the whole tribe, everyone, as strong as possible.
