Well, this adds a interesting twist the day after the UN proposes a cease fire in Syria.

Moscow appears to have deployed an advanced new stealth fighter to its airbase in Syria, reports in Russian news media and online videos of the aircraft indicated on Thursday, in what analysts say could be a risky attempt to gain publicity and operational experience for the jet in one of the world’s most tangled conflicts.

Their appearance comes at a fraught moment in the seven-year war, as the US and Russia occasionally scramble jets to intercept each other over Syria and pro-regime warplanes pound the Damascus suburb of eastern Ghouta despite protests from the UN. More than 330 people have been killed there since the bombing began on Sunday, according to reports.

The Guardian

While they very well may be using Syria as a sandbox for new weapons as they have been, I'd be willing to bet its for other reasons.

My guess is with things heating up between so many parties, this may be a little insurance plan for Putin.

The past two weeks have heated up in Syria.

We've seen an Iranian drone shot down in Israel, and Israel responded by hitting Iranian bases in Syria.

We definitely can't forget reports of Americans killing dozens of Russian mercenaries.

Most recently we've seen Turkey say they'll beseige Afrin.

It might not hurt Russia to have a card up their sleeve with such congested skies and broad interests.

We should dust it, just to make the point.

Is the point to turn proxy war into WWIII? Haha.

That being said, I'm not sure what assets would be required to take down a 5th gen jet, or if we have them in the area. That would be a question for Zaphod. Though the question is purely hypothetical and I strongly doubt that would happen.

What, that we're (you're) intolerant of Russians; that they should be excluded from all the proxy war fun Hillary & Obama started by trying to overthrow the Syrian government?

Oh don't worry about it.
Everybody knows stealth is junk and can't survive on a modern battlefield.

Why else would all these countries be building stealth aircraft?

Oh, wait, nevermind. It's only US stealth that sucks.

Big deal.

They have every right to be there. The Russians want to test their new weapons while they're helping fight the terrorists then that is their prerogative.

It'll be interesting to hear if it performs well at least.

God forbid other countries have interests that aren't in line with ours. American virtue signaling brings freedom to countries!

Iraq=Free.

Afghanistan=Free.

Libya=Free.

Syria=Free.

Yemen=Free.

And that's just in the past 15~ years! Our track record is killing it!

Assuming that it works in the first place.

You have to switch your computer monitor to "infrared mode".

Then you'll see the cloaked stealth fighter.
