just seems like if there are so many bots whats the point?

Twitter is supposed for people to comment on current events and express opinions, and provide an instant measure of current situations. Not for sock puppets to try and influence public opinion.

MENTAL DISORDERS / BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER
Overview[/I]
Borderline personality disorder is a mental illness marked by an ongoing pattern of varying moods, self-image, and behavior. These symptoms often result in impulsive actions and problems in relationships. People with borderline personality disorder may experience intense episodes of anger, depression, and anxiety that can last from a few hours to days.

So I read that twitter deleted hundreds of thousands Russian bot accounts last night. Apparently this action is having a massive impact on the mental health of the defectives on the right who thought they were real people.

People with borderline personality disorder (BPD) also tend to view things in extremes, such as all good or all bad. Their opinions of other people can also change quickly. Often times, people with BPD view those that they disagree with as less than human or of little to no value

Some of the replies are pure comedy gold. I heard a rumor that Hanity lost over 300,000 followers alone.

Another symptom includes inappropriate, intense anger or problems controlling anger. This is routinely projected on others. People with BPD often take pleasure in the suffering of others.

One thing for sure. This demonstrates just how easily right wingers can be, and are being, manipulated. Kinda like circus animals taught to do tricks, but slightly less evolved.

Feeling suspicious or out of touch with reality. People with BPD often struggle with paranoia or suspicious thoughts about others’ motives. When under stress, you may even lose touch with reality. Those with BPD are notorious manipulators, and see everything as a power struggle and who wins / loses. This comes not from a place of malice, but one of overwhelming distress filtered through profoundly disordered coping skills.

...and here is a link for you to begin looking for recovery and treatment.
Understanding BPD

"...Indeed, the idea that people with BPD are maliciously emotionally manipulative is common, causing even some clinicians to avoid working with them."

ah well. tough luck...

They don't need to even close their accounts, they could just stop posting and reading tweets. But then where are they supposed to rant about about liberals and SJW's.

Yeah, I'll start posting super clever one liners in Swahili. Let's blow each other's minds with free speech, dude!!

That would be very challenging for Twitter as a business enterprise, and the postal system would get constipated with all these tiny envelopes of tweets. And it'd take ages to ship over from Russia. They'd have to build a pipeline of tweets crossing the Bering strait to Alaska, they'd be blown over in ping pong balls, like those pneumatic tubes they use in businesses and hospitals. Devastating effect on the environment, too, when all these hateful tweets start leaking out and get eaten by moose and salmon.

Why are they deleting so called "Russian bots" now?

Because they are getting attention now... and they have become a liability to Twitter... instead of the asset they were to corporate earnings before everyone's attention turned to "Russian bots".

Yes... they COULD have blocked them. This presumes Twitter had nothing to do with fake profiles themselves.

I am amazed, on a daily basis, how easily media and Big Data can make people believe things that are obviously questionable or false.

I was locked out. NOW it is removing the people I'm following along with my followers.
Love the censorship!

Only it isn't working. I'm finding even new friends.

Did you have to provide a telephone number to prove you were real?

See? That's what I am wondering...are they requiring certain personal contact information from conservative members that they are not requiring of everyone else?

Probably with the intent of accidentally anonymously doxxing anyone that makes too much of a buzz. Pretty evil to be honest.

I disagree. I think they should delete their accounts so Twitter's member account numbers dive hard.

Leave it to be an echo chamber for people who enjoy censorship -- when it doesn't happen to them -- and rant about how *amusing* it is that certain people of political stripes were censored.

A new twitteresque-type forum that doesn't suffer from the same bias issues would do well in this market. Let the free market determine that Twitter needs to fail.

Well did you have an account deleted? What's your twitter name?

Why does jack leave child porn up for months after it is reported, but immediately suspend the account that reports it?

Twitter was hard left until the 2016 election. There were almost no conservatives. The hashtag #TCOT (top conservatives on twitter) would only have a few hundred posts per day. The news media understood this and decided that made twitter the perfect source for reporting public opinion. As the news media pimped unabashed left wing view points with no dissent, conservatives began joining, then with trump their numbers gained a lot of ground.

Going back only gives them what they want. They want conservatives off twitter. They want an echo chamber that they can claim represents public opinion.

That's not really what happened and you damn well know it.

I hate these totally disingenuous claims.

90-95% of the people had to go through a Google verification to get back on.

What do you need explaining for this? At the end of the day it is impossible to see if an account is staffed by a bot or a real person. The best way is to flag suspicious ones then force all of them to reverify.

Oh, I don't need it to be explained, but you did a great job.

Expressing a conservative point of view, on Twitter, makes you "suspicious."

Gestapo.

I thought it was simply a scouring to see who had a Russian root IP (or who had used one in the past).

If they want to eliminate russian IP's then that is very easy. Twitter have all the IP's to all the the twitter accounts. IP information is public, if you have the IP number then you can use one of the online search databases to find out where it originates from.

But it isn't possible to do that if the users are using a proxy.

That's an insult to circus animals. They can be rehabilitated. These things seem to be un-fixable.
