Great and interesting case. Maybe corporate testing, maybe inter-service miscommunication, like the Navy testing sub-launched drones without telling the air defense command in a timely manner.

Or like someone said on the black projects thread:

There are several three letter agencies that use operational assets that don't play by the same rules that everyone on outside do. The less people that are aware of what they are doing the less leaks they have and the easier it is to cover their tracks. This is why we never hear about some of these transit flights till they are caught on camera, crash or accidentally take out LAX ATC.

Other pilots eyeballed it.

They said it was an airplane.

There are new airliners in the works.

Expect an unveiling of a new airliner soon.

Updated article from The Drive. Fighters were scrambled. This is a real case.

Now, through the Freedom of Information Act, we present what could be one of the most insightful instances of official documentation surrounding such an encounter that had already been confirmed to have occurred by both the FAA and the USAF. These materials include fascinating audio recordings of radio transmissions and phone calls made as the incident was unfolding, as well as pilot interviews, and conversations between FAA officials made in the aftermath of the highly peculiar incident.

A few more details.

The pilot of Southwest 4712 noted that he had not seen anything like this in his nearly 30-year flying career. “If it was like a Lear [private jet] type airframe I probably would not have seen it this clear. This was a white airplane and it was big,” he said. And it was moving at a clip too, because we were keeping pace with it, it was probably moving faster than we were… It was a larger aircraft yeah.”

New audio .

Much more serious case than gets attention, imo.

Aviation stories rarely get any coverage unless it's a slow news day. And then they get it almost entirely wrong when they do report on something.

Is that speed mentioned correct? 37,000 MPH? No known man made vehicle can reach that speed inside the atmosphere.
