In a small study involving 60 infants born in Manhatten have found that Air Pollution could be altering these babies chromosones. Previous studies have linked these types of genetic alterations to increased cancer risk but as only 60 babies were involved in this study a much larger one will have to be conducted to verify the results of this and previous studies on this subject.

Exposure to pollutants called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) was monitored among nonsmoking African-American and Dominican mothers in three low-income neighborhoods: Harlem, Washington Heights and the South Bronx.

"Although the study was conducted in Manhattan neighborhoods, exhaust pollutants are prevalent in all urban areas, and therefore the study results are relevant to populations in other urban areas," says study senior author Frederica Perera of the Columbia Center for Children's Environmental Health in New York.

Global Warming or no global warming our culture of consumerism is having a definite adverse affect on the innocent, our future generations. The more we continue to pollute the air the more prominent these symptoms are going to be. What is it going to take for people to realize that burning stuff, is going to release toxic crap into the atmosphere and enter our bodies through inhalation, absorption or even more scary through our food supply.

I am so sad that this piece of news is not getting the attention that it deserved specially this very serious that our newborns have to deal with what we are doing to the environment, and with all the slap in the face that the bush administration is doing to us while protecting the big corporate interest.

Nobody cares about the legacy that we will be giving to our next generation.

At this point, the pollution is all through our soil and water, not just the air.
