Scary thought but it will happen.

Also considered smart locks for high capacity long arms.
These locks detect the amount of ammo in a magazine and can track were large capacity magazine are when lock unlocked.

So if somebody puts a large magazine in a weapon and they are at a shooting range the data will send back ok.
But if high capacity magazine loaded near civilian locations is detected the weapon is located and evaluated or locked.
I know this seems like expensive advanced or future tech but it may help...

Some of the population are not mentally sound.

Seems better to have them around than this omnipresent mass surveillance-execution system that can be malfunction, get hacked or be reprogrammed at a whim.

This sort of technology would need some practical testing before it's put out on the street.

I recommend putting about 100 drones in Congress when it is in session. Whenever lawmakers propose some unconstitutional legislation, BAM!

Sure, make more and new weapons, to protect from the other old weapons... Cause evil people who wants to do others harm, would never use these new weapons to hurt people, they will stick with guns and knifes... and if they do, we will just invent newer and more advanced weapons to combat the others we made... no problem. Much easier than to try and teach people to be nice to each other. We all wants to stay selfish and without responsibility for what happens around us, so carry on, invent us some new weapons we can play with

Invisible detonator - defuse barriers would have multiple intelligence systems that work together simultaneously... There would be bots, in forms of insects that would simply sit in civilian public areas reading chemical human body language all day/nite. These insects would basically be looking for increased heart rates and temperature changes, perfuse sweating and abnormal human biometric movements that may be associated with abnormalities in undergarments and fight or flight human chemical changes... The insect bots would also be linked to land and air based bots, like small marsupials-rodents and or birds. These bots can move close to irregular targets... Something like the movie Screamers but more advanced and less aggressive in response but extremely potent. Say they approach target with injection or high RF signals to heart or brain, also fitted in insects bots. The ACTIVE RESPONSE will be first human evaluated, to prevent bot failure and then initiated, target threat decommissioned... There would also be A.I. Connected MILITARY DRONES linked to the intelligence systems of land air insect bots that could then respond to large threats of incoming air land attacks. This would be an advanced Human & Artificial intelligence augmentation system designed to protect the civilian public where humans are found congested in public areas, from malls to stadiums... BE SAFE HUMANITY

How very dystopian.

For some of you in fear of piercing the veil and looking into the shadows who may not know.

This technology already exist. Remember what you see is not as advanced as what may be.

It can be done.

Its a great idea, but....what about when the Russians hack the bots? You know, because......they're the Russians and that's what they do!

The advanced a.i system would reverse hack any hackers and shut down their finances system temporarily...

As warning.

This isn't a solution though. It's a a sci-fi movie. The solution you provided literally helps no one and has zero chance of ever being implemented. It's just THAT ridiculous.

Considering that the same folks who would be running the bots, are the ones who likely armed and trained this kid....your plan seems....flawed.

Or, maybe you have a better idea of where a 19yr old dropout gets an $1100 gun, a bunch of $60 mags, hundreds in ammo, and at least 6 other firearms costing hundreds each, and a gas mask, smoke grenades, etc.. Do you know? Did he just pick them up on sale at Walmart? No, I think not...

This kid was recruited and equipped.

There are homegrown groups with those items also.

And, these groups just gave him over 2 grand worth of equipment?

Even though he apparently was a member of a paramilitary group, let me remind you the kid worked at a Dollar Store....

Nope, not buyin' it....recruited and armed.

REAL SOLUTIONS

1. Just as employers do, students should have magnetic key cards to enter/exit school grounds during school hours, through any exterior doors.

2. Access via car circles, etc. should go through a security gate where identity is verified before going inside the gate (turnaround area before said gate, provided for wrong entry, etc.)

3. Metal detectors in exterior doors that automatically trigger a special alarm sound for shooter on campus. (these are only activated by the amount of metal that would be in such a weapon, it's mags, ammo, etc.). This would also trigger a lockdown of classrooms, automatic notification to community police, etc.

4. Former (not current) students on campus without permission and an ID badge, should be arrested by campus police or community police for tresspassing. The import of this must be communicated to students. It is hoped that the other steps would prevent this, but...

5. All schools need an exterior fence and gate systems as previously mentioned.

6. Each school should have at least one armed resource police officer present, preferably more, based on population of the student body.

A REAL solution tackles the problem of a student getting on campus with a weapon period...not the type of weapon, etc. Stop that, and you prevent the tragedies. But nope, instead, we'll see an outcry to ban this weapon or that weapon, or all weapons, etc. instead....which won't prevent a whacko from getting one and doing this again.
