Mass shootings. None of us can deny that the US has an unfair advantage on this topic. Yes, people die in other countries, and killings still happen. But there is something in our society that seems to not only enable this, it emboldens it. I don't think for one second it's an issue we can solve with one action. It's so much bigger than guns, or ADHD drugs, or video games, but it's all those things, and more. Empathy. The ability to care about the life of other people, or animals.

Empathy. Without it, taking life indiscriminately is easy. You need not have any guilt, any sadness, no feelings at all, but satisfaction. We have moved away from caring about others to such a degree that some of us not only possess the ability to kill, we are excited by the opportunity. That is a sickness.

When I think back to my childhood, the 1980's for my teenage years. This kind of thing just didn't happen. I knew of maybe one or two people who had been rumored to be "psycho". Torturing animals was the rumor. I have no doubt that a person who would torture a defenseless creature would have the ability to take a life without thought. But like I said, those kinds of people existed, but they were rare, and we all knew that what they seemed to lack was wrong.

I sure as hell don't have the answers to this, but I do know that if we don't all have RATIONAL discussions about this, and talk about the uncomfortable things, this won't change. We all need to be willing to look into the dark closet that frightens us.

the killing just needs to stop.

I'm about done with this topic. I've said my piece.

We need to change the way we teach and raise our children.

They have no coping skills. They have no problem-solving skills.

Some respond in a juvenile manner with adult tools.

They have been coddled and trophied since birth so when they encounter the harsh realities of the real world or run into issues that are hard, they react disproportionately.

Life is hard. Life is tough.

But no solution to a problem should ever include shooting up a school.

Literally wrote the Book on Active Shooters at the U.S. Air Force Academy....this was a portion of the training I conducted after researching the root cause. NO ONE wanted to hear this, but it's the no sh*t common denominator across the entire history of these type of incidents. Cross check and verify as I did and the Truth will be Revealed. It affects Big Pharma...so it's the one thing that never gets talked about.

I'm ashamed to say that I've become so used to hearing about mass shootings that I've yet to read about this Florida shooting. I plan on reading about it today, but when it happened, it was such a common headline that I decided to come back to it later. Getting to this point is unacceptable and like you said, there has GOT to be something that can be done. After the church shooting a few months ago, our church locked the back doors and now sits a trained, armed person in the foyer any time church is in session, until everyone leaves. It might be considered excessive in today's society but sometimes that's what it takes.

And that goes back to when we were kids. No participation trophies, just first, and the first looser, followed by the other loosers. If you got tired of loosing, you worked harder, or chose a different avenue. Discipline. Most of us were taught what behavior was appropriate and what was not. And it bled over to the kids who didn't get much of it.

Our culture needs to change. I hate to say it needs to go back to how it was "in the good ole days", but those times were good, simple, easy, and safe.

Don't give up on this, please.

Or the opposite: neglected. And never taught anything at all.

I don't doubt your research. I just believe it's not JUST that, but many factors that allowed that to happen. Lazy parents who found that drugging your kid was easier than giving a # about what they were doing and who they were doing it with.

Mass shootings weren't really a thing until one technology became mainstream.

You don't have to hate to say it. We can go back to the good ole days without adopting all of the ways the good ole days were. But it starts with God. # didn't start hitting the fan like this until God was removed and doctors made ADHD up.

We need to address the large amount of crisis acting that I see on TV on a regular basis.

and we need to address this New World Mockery being concocted on the Sheep.

they make it obvious on purpose because they are psychotic. They really are laughing at you.

Yes. You will hear all about the evils of firearms, video games, prescription drugs , etc. How about the feeling of "self" today ? How does that figure in ? A person feels they are wronged by society so therefore must strike back . And they will make the news and somehow be elevated and justified even in the most heinous of terms.
Morality is just about non-existent now in the US .It is all about "self" . Where did it begin ? I dont know . When and how will it end ? I dont know that either . But I can say , I am glad I am an old man . I dont want to see how it ends. I have a feeling it will not be a Cinderella ending

This, too. I think social media is hands down the worst of the worst. Youtube. Twitter. Facebook. Snapchap. Instagram. And Linkedin requests.

I agree with that as well. But at this point, it's not "en vogue" to believe in God, you do want to be part of the "in crowd" don't you?

Fact is that the internet is available for people all over the world. Still, the US is the only country where these school shootings or other mass shootings happen on a regular basis, once a week or so, based on the numbers and statistics I've seen.

Makes little sense to blame the internet for the senseless killings, IMO.

instant gratification. no longer is anticipation a valued feeling. Which might lead to second thinking an irrational thought.

damn, the more you think about all this, the more complex it becomes. Which is why I think we need to move past the "talking points", and start listening to each other.
