Poor Syd Barrett spiralled out of orbit.
Enter David Gilmour to save the ship.
This composition makes my eyes get wet.
Listen to it or you get no pudding.

One day soon, I will drive into the mountains with the digital files of the album and my Bose SoundLink speaker, and spend a night in a dark valley under a moonless, starlit sky with this album playing. No drugs. I don't need them. The music is narcotic enough.

the stereo effect is a big part of floyds music. if you can get a speaker either side of your head you'll have an enhanced experience. enjoy

I highly recommend seeing Brit Floyd if you get a chance.
By far the best tribute band I've seen, I never got to see Pink Floyd live, but this is pretty close.

Great thread, I'm a little bit jealous of all you have yet to discover.

Glad you've finally discovered Floyd, it's some amazing sounds! I still chill with my cousin watching The Wall from time to time - as others have said, it's highly recommended!

One thing I was unaware of, that others have mentioned, is the mash-up with Pink Floyd and The Wizard of Oz. I did a little search and came across it online, they call it 'Dark Side of the Rainbow'. I'll link them below for others who might want to give it a spin;

Dark Side of the Rainbow - Best Parts

Dark Side of the Rainbow - Full

I've not watched it all yet, but I like the bits I've skimmed through so far,

All the best

oh i dont know about that, i doubt i can ever have an experience on par with the time i took my girl lucy with me
and watched the wall... the universe opened up to me, i found myself simultaneously mourning the loss of my naive world image and marveling at the beauty of my ability to correct it.... hard to explain, but it was a transcendent experience.

Well the thing to realize about the Floyd, I think you already learned...you said "the music is narcotic enough" and that is certainly true. PF will hit you in so many different ways, listen to it when you're happy, when you're introspective, when your confused, when you're sad, when you're unsure...The Floyd has a way of making you question, answering your questions, reassuring you, filling you with wonder and making you look inside yourself for answers to questions you didn't know you had.

Welcome to the machine, my friend, where everything is green and submarine.

What ??? What??? What ???? No Pink Floyd ?

Oh, yeah, Charlie Pride was a big part of that.

Rain drippin' off the brim of my hat ...

So many kind and helpful replies. Thanks.

The comments about the importance of stereo makes much sense. I'll see what I can do.

I've certainly heard Pink Floyd over the years, but until last night, I had never listened to Pink Floyd. It's definitely not music to be played in background.

I think once you start hearing more of their songs you will realize you have heard them alot/

Im pretty sure I heard Floyd in an elevator last week.

So, you were like, "Hey, let's just stay on the elevator for a while?"

When you're ready to take it up a notch watch "The Wizard of Oz" in sync from beginning to end with Pink Floyd's album "Dark Side of the Moon".

I actually did watch that whole thing with my brother a few years ago. It was pretty bizarre. The band says that they did do it on purpose.

I can clearly see that! Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try to do that.

Maybe I'll just have to settle for listening to it here at home in a dark room with a good pair of earphones, but I really think that I need to be out in the mountains.

Mexico huh, I lived in Morelos.

Its good you are still discovering new and new old things.

Be careful in those mountains! There be giants.

Maybe your music will calm the wild mountain night.

I heard that it was to start when the video changed from B/W to color.

I first heard that it was to start when the video changed from B/W to color, but have sense heard a couple of other starting points. The b/w to color change seemed to work.

IMO, that is the best Floyd song there is.

Everytime I hear "we're just 2 lost souls swimming in a fish bowl", all I can think is "indeed, we are".
