Military to create the robot soldier

Topic started on 15-2-2005 @ 08:12 PM by jukyu

Drudge hasn't finished writing the story on it but basically the U.S. Government has started a $127 billion project called Future Combat Systems. Essentially the claim is the creation of robots as a part of the "21st century fighting force." The army considers these robots to be crucial in its efforts to remain a dominant force. According to a similar fox news article posted yesterday the military is looking into more and more options in keeping soldiers out of harms way. They already have the capability to mount machine guns and rpg's on a robot and control it with pinpoint accuracy from 1000 yards away.

The robot soldier is coming! Robots are a crucial part of Army's effort to rebuild itself as21st-century fighting force, and $127 billion project called Future Combat Systems is biggest military contract in American history... Developing..

Not much to it but definetely a story to keep your eyes on. At what point do we no longer put Americans in harms way and just send in a robot instead? What would the cost be to the other side though when our risk is just losing a robot and theirs is losing human lives? I think there is potential here for a whole lot of good and a whole lot of bad. One way or the other, thats a heck of a lot of money.

Sorry, the small amount of information on this one prevented me from posting a story of the standard I hope to keep. However, I found it interesting, pertinent, and appropriate considering the nature of this site. I tried to flesh it out a little bit more and I apologize if it doesn't meet the standards of atssn. Actually please vote it out, it would make a much better discussion then a story. Again I apologize and I'll do better next time.
