I like that an alien would be so disturbed by a planet of necks that he would abduct a human for the sole purpose of getting it off his chest.

LOL Only in the Pac NW. I'd don't see why aliens couldn't be mollusc that had evolved mentally(brain wise) beyond their bodies. Look at the claimed grey's bodies-how they aren't using them as much as brain power. Traveling by ship, if that was their method, could be more challenging. Or instead they were escapees from an alien ship. Maybe they left behind their family, in the seas. Or I'm just biased about octopi.

There was a sci fi book called The Day of the Triffids. They are large carnivorous plants, can move on their own and were a creation of man. They were kept in electrically fenced areas so they could not escape. As they have no eyes, they are blind, but have other very good sensory input to hunt prey. A meteor shower, watched by almost everyone on the planet, blinded all those who saw it. A few people were left with sight. The triffids get loose as there are now no sighted people controlling the electricity or the fences holding them in. The few left with sight have to find a way to survive and beat the triffids.
