That's why we need to make it more affordable. We just need government to step out of the way. We don't need more of their interference.

That's a problem with food stamps, not an employer.

Probably because I don't have a massive chip on my shoulder against the world.

Because the S in SNAP is for Supplemental. At $13 an hour you don't need to be supplemented. Learn to budget.

Or you just jump to conclusions that are way off base.

I'm sure you could list us a simple budget on how to make $13 an hour based off a 40 hour week work .....

I agree, 13 an hour is going to be a pretty crappy life, financially. But this is starting pay for the lead in QA. I hope it would top out above 16. Still very lean pay.

Pay has not kept up with the cost of living since the 1970's. It is no mistake, it is corporatism.

I could, but it depends on whether the person is willing to forgo luxuries like cable/internet/smart phones/netflix, and cook for themselves. If someone can't make a living on $2000/month before taxes. they've got problems that can only be solved with a willingness to make cuts.

Seriously, are you reading what you type? $2000 per month. I was making half that out of college and still survived while paying for my own health insurance. But I was willing to go without things that people take for granted.

don't kid yourself what's probably around 380 a week in take home with no benefits if you have to pay for them (which you do in most places now) is good money

It says "Inspection Lead", not Manager or Director. That's probably a Team Leader position, which is at least 3 tiers below a General Manager.

Reel it in, folks.

That's a 27% cut, sounds like California or some other blue state utopia. And that's still $1520 per month. What the heck kind of lifestyles are you guys living?

So there you go , somebody can survive and survive being the optimal word here, just forgoes any luxury, forget having any quality of life just suck it up and be a good slave, just what I thought.....

What is the incentive to work if you have to do 40 hours a week to live in some sort of purgatory ?

13 an hour ends up at around 380 a week after all taxes are taken out which include local and state. Yes they take fed but you get a lot of that back and the number is kinda low.

rent for an apartment usually runs around 600 here which is really low for the country
minumum cell phone is 40 a month which is actually pretty cheap and don't give me the live without a cellphone nonsense it's not reasonable in todays world
let's do winter eletricity, my bill is over 300 and I turn the heat off when I'm at work
garbage bags are $10 each and you have to use the city ones
to feed myself for a week while living somewhat healthy is around 100-120 a week and I'm not buying a lot with that food has gottan massively expensive
gas for car is around 20-50 a week depending on the week, car is paid off
insurance is around 125 per month
internet is around 40 and don't give me live without the internet nonsense it's cheaper than a lot of other ways to fill your free time
gym membership is 22 and that's very low and to me it's considered a necessity because being health is important and less expensive

this is just a basic off the top of my head breakdown of cost let's look at the totals

bare minumum, nothing happens to my car my glasses don't break I don't need new boots for work off the top of my head need 1707 a month to stay alive

13 an hour on 40 hours a week is 1520 after taxes

The incentive is to prove you are worth more.

The quality of your life is what you make it, not what other people think of you.

This is entry level requiring a 6 month certification course. There has been a jump in new schools and workers because it's quick and easy to get started. The upper pay scale is 100K range.

Get some experience then start inspecting welding or coatings. Keep leveling up. Move on to an oil company, nuclear or aerospace industry.
