Hi All,

Forgive me if this is already posted, it's been about for a while but I couldn't see anything. MODS I'm happy for you to remove if it has.

Popular Mechanics Article - Boeing Valkyrie 2

There has been talk of BD's SR-72 contender since early last year, but this is the first time I've seen the internal project designation on a public source. All this coming as LM are actively denying having built an SR-72 contender.

Of course, Valkyrie was the name for legendary XB-70, still one of my favourite aircraft of all time....even if it was ultimately cancelled. It's not been confirmed but this homage to that previous high flying high-supersonic is very fitting.

Cheers

Robbie

They're kidding right?

That concept art is a straight copy of the 20+ year old "Aurora" art.

Ummmmm

It is? That's the recent concept art released by Boeing....it's definitely new. Or new to us at least. Maybe there's something to that whole Aurora thing? Even if it's not exactly a platform called Aurora.

Please don't muddy the water with any Aurora nonsense guys.

If you said it looked similar to the SR-72 concept art I'd agree.

I did wonder if after the cancellation of the XB-70 what happened to the designs and wondered if they ever experimented altering it slightly. I mentioned in another thread what if they kept the design so to speak but cut the length down but keeping the general shape of it. Then again it's not that I know much but it wasn't until I started looking at pics of the XB-70 and see some similarities with some of the concept art floating about

The name is appropriate. Hopefully that's what it actually is. I'd love to see a Valkyrie flying.

A lot was learned from the XB-70 that could be translated to other programs.

I read back in the day that they actually had at least one Valkyrie operable, modified to be used as a subspace satellite tender (possibly with shootdown capability, bridge technology before true 'killer satellites' came out)

black budget referred to as 'Brilliant Buzzard'

supposed to have been a few sightings of.

probly just internet chatter but ya never know...

And supposedly the XB-70 DNA found its way into at least a couple other aircraft.

Sorry, been away for a few days.

Waveriders are brilliant designs, some would say they're the stars of the black world

I think it's interesting that BD are leaking info on a hypersonic program just as Lockmart are playing the SR-72 rumours down! Perhaps someone lost a bid!

Unless I too have missed any reports of visual sightings, I think he is referring to the press release from Boeing of conceptual artwork of a Hypersonic vehicle
