YEah, losing our magnetic shield isn't a good thing. If people are looking for a potential disaster with more oomph than the usual conspiracy theory,
science has a few to offer.
They are up front that besides bad storms, water and food shortages and loss of waterfront real estate, global warming has an end game where the sea
will acidify and algae making most of our o2 will die. That might pose some problems, I'd think.
Behind door # 2 we have the magnetic pole shift (different from the crustal slippage posited in the 1950s). As the Earth's mag field weakens over some
period of time likely to be at least a century, and like now, we will be exposed to more radiation and the solar wind will blow some of our atmosphere
away, creating some interesting dynamics not conducive to our biosphere.
