No. It's authoritarian to hold an ideology that requires strict obedience to the state and does not allow for flexibility, which is what many on the Right seem to have.

Welcome American Democrat Party !!

Lots of people *claiming* to be Socialists are actually Democrats !!

Is enforcing laws authoritarian? Should we just not enforce laws?

Already addressed. Please see my post above.

Finally what kind of message does it send to the population if we selectively enforce our laws and people in positions of authority do not have the law enforced on them yet us citizens do?

It's not that simple, but a good question we must ponder. I'm sure most people don't give a damn.

I am willing to state openly that I do not care one bit. Leave them be and let them live their lives. In fact, have them invite some friends over from across the border. We could use them.

I bet you didn't care when Obama was using EOs to implement things that would never pass congress.

They will say Obama only used Executive Orders out of the goodness of his heart. He cared for people, people from all different countries.

They will also neglect the fact that Obama seems to care more about appeasing his puppet masters and hurting the US than he did American citizens (see articles for Obama Drone Strikes kill US Citizens). The US is more divided and weaker as a result of Obama's legacy.

I'm not sure Trump will do much better, but I hope he can't do worse!

Well unfortunately the politicians can not be arrested while congress is in session unless they commit a felony or some such...I remember this being posted recently in regards to the memo. Maybe that's why they are brazen enough to try this stunt.

does SOTU count as "in session"?
regardless, if I could get in a shyte ton of trouble for not paying taxes, then people who are here ILLEGALLY (let's all say it together...ILLEGALLY) and are avoiding the same civic duties should absolutely be ICE'd. we're in the throes of a race war with blacks and whites, yet we ignore the profiteers making money under the table, sending it out of the country, and laughing all the way back to their rent free homes.

just something about how the op's quote read....
the two that are named don't sound like they are undocumented, and like you said, puerto rico is a territory...
and the daca recipients aren't really undocumented, I imagine there are plenty of documents in the gov't hands telling them they are in the country, where they are living, working, going to school... or serving in the military.
which leaves only the " other undocumented immigrants" that would be arrested in this conservative fantasy land.
wonder just how many of those " other undocumented immigrants" they manage to talk into walking into a den of snakes and vipers? my guess isn't really that many.
but this conservative fantasy land only exists so that they can experience the thrill of locking up all those that stand against their great leader or speak out against them while they hug their flag, quote their god, and proclaim their brand of patriotism as being the only right brand... never realizing just how unlawful and unpatriotic their fantasies would be in the real world....

so, the question is, should criminals be arrested? Absolutely.

This is a gambit and one that may not be what people expect.

Think back to certain points in history where a picture or even a live broadcast, changed public opinion that caused social changed in the country.

So they bring illegal immigrants to the White House, what if they were to bring children, what would the public reaction be if they saw officers coming in and arresting them right there on the spot? And who would want to be in charge of that PR nightmare from it? Think about it, large cops swarming in to arrest frightened children in the Congress of the United States, what images would that say to the world?

So if I was a Democrat, I would bring children, not adults to this meeting, showing the faces of DACA and use that as a political ploy against the president and the republicans. I know it stinks but it forces the republicans to make a decision, arrest children infront of the national media, or let them come sit, visit and then go again.

Exactly. If they were to arrest these people, as the OP suggested, it would be a game changer that would garner sympathy and paint the Right Wing/Trump as authoritarian nutters.

So I say go for it. Let's see their wishes come true.

You keep flapping on about authoritarian like you have a clue what it means...do you really or...? I replied to your earlier post on page 1 and I really don't want to repost it again so I'll just ask if you have any answers for the class on those questions I asked?

Just posted it. My apologies for not posting in a timely manner that fits your schedule. As I said to another member the other day, I will reply when I have time and feel inclined to do so. My life does not revolve around ATS and cannot sit on here all day in order to satisfy the impatient.

trump should not have to say or do a thing, if they know illegals will be there, then ICE should do their job and go and detain them.

Or capital police should and notify ICE.

Sure, you mean like when Clinton had armed military forces drag poor little Elian Gonzalez from his home and had him deported? The pictures speak volumes.

Yes. That was bull#.

Hypocrite.

Really? You call me a hypocrite before you even know what I think on the issue?

Well, I guess you were wrong.

But, in reality, they are breaking the law.

Arrest all the elected representatives whose home states have corporations that hire undocumented workers.

Surrre, right after we take over the military, civil authorities and the Main Scream Media.

"It' is fundamental in our system that there be respect for the law and compliance with all laws -- not just those with which we happen to agree" - RFK

Laws are what makes civilization possible. IF people want to join your civilization, then one must want to follow the laws, if not, they want what you have and not how you got it, this leads to a civilization crash. Which is what some actually want (see Cloward–Piven strategy)

History may not be so kind, and if you look at such then perhaps one could see where this is a trap unto itself. Some of the most iconic pictures showed the worst abuse of power, like say the Civil rights movements, where some of the marchers were brutally attacked, by the local law enforcement. Now who was right? The marchers or the law enforcement, who were after all following the laws, and the orders of those in the various local and state level government?

Or how about the pictures from the 1960's Berkley riot. During that time frame, the rioters were illegally occupying the college, and the government moved in, people got shot. Did that go over so well?

The point being, is that the moment the police go to arrest people or start asking for id's or papers, it would be a nasty situation, where the DC police and the republicans would bear. The only way to avoid it is to just let them show up, sit through a boring speech and then go, without lifting a finger.

As an Englishman I am incredibly confused by all this.

Let me get this straight because perhaps I'm misunderstanding this.

There are government officials that are planning to bring or send people who are actively committing a crime to a presidential address? Is that accurate?

Over here we would call that "absolutely taking the piss".

Of course they should arrest them if they're actively committing a crime. If they brought any other criminal and had them commit their crime of choice at a presidential address (or anywhere else for that matter) then they'd ALL be arrested. How is that unreasonable?

Now, whether the law is RIGHT and just is definitely up for debate. It is entirely right to press for a change in the law if you believe the law to be unjust.
However flagrantly parading your criminal actions in a public forum is absolutely ludicrous and it is entirely reasonable to arrest those involved. Really, I can't understand how they could NOT arrest these people?

You guys seriously confuse me sometimes.

Umm DACA recipients are already in a program that protects them.

Rolls eyes.

Do you want to see people humiliated and suffer?

we seriously confuse ourselves quite often unfortunately, part of the problem with so many people, so many different cultures and such a huge landmass.

I can call a woman darlin in the deep south and its accepted, go up north its sexual harassment for example.

Well then do it!

Stop talking trash like jaded teenagers and let's see you guys start putting your money where your mouths are.

You want to talk about laws and criminals being held accountable, let's see the capital police stroll in to that chamber and start arresting people.

We all know it's not going to happen, and shouldn't, and it's nothing more than delusional nonsense from the same people that think we need to arrest people in the media, etc.

This thread is a main reason that our country is so screwed up. We have people in this thread defending people who are doing things illegally and have for, in some instances, decades. So, pedophiles now are ok? Hey, the rape happened 3 years ago and he is sorry so can we let it go?

Authoritarian. F you. Authoritarian would be raiding the home of everyone who was against him in the election and arresting them for treason with no cause. I would have a big problem with that.

I have a big problem with these self-serving hypocrites who are going to throw in the face of the president illegal immigrants. They should all be inviting a homeless guy from Detroit or a single mom from Baltimore or a disabled Vet. All citizens who are not getting a fraction of what is used each year on criminals.

DACA was illegal. It was an attempt to pass the DREAM Act because it could not be approved. There are also thousands not protected under DACA anymore.

www.nbcnews.com...

All those people who did not renew but we are supposed to feel bad for them. They are here and cannot even do what is required to stay. Bums. Deport them.

Over 20 DNC House members are planning on brining illegal immigrants to the 1st SOTU for President Trump.

That shouldn't surprise anyone.

They marched them out on stage at their convention in PA.
