If the Republicans REALLY had 50 votes in the senate...

They could eliminate the filibuster, effectively eliminating the Democrats ability to obstruct their agenda.

....

It takes sixty votes to block the filibuster, from my understanding.

You misunderstand. The Senate can alter its rules to remove the filibuster with a simple majority vote.

How do you think Republicans got Gorsuch through?

Then I'm getting conflicting information on it.

If you are correct, then we are back to the three party-unofficial- scenario. The Corporate backed republicans in concert with the Dems vs Trump and the grassroots.

Trump will move...but how??

Republicans apparently consider preserving the filibuster as an option over funding the government.

They could do otherwise. This is a reason that no totally controlled government (all branches majority one party) has never before shutdown the government - they don't have to.

That would be the rhetoric. Not the reason. Immigration is in lockstep between the Dems and the Republican establishment. Why do you think the huge delay on de-funding Sanctuary Cities??

The 'Party' in control isn't in control. Trump and the people of the United States Versus the Democrats AND Republicans.

Here is the real battle line. Leave the gov't shut down as long as necessary...right up to martial law.

This thread is pure hypocrisy.

Speaking of hypocrisy:

Trump Blames Himself For Government Shutdown: 'It's Always The President's Fault'

"Who is going to take the blame? In the board room here, who's getting fired? Who is going to bear the brunt of the responsibility if indeed there's a shutdown of our government?"

Trump said, "If you say who gets fired, it always has to be the top. Problems start from the top and they have to get solved from the top and the president is the leader and he's got to get everybody in a room and he's got to lead."

He continued, "The interesting thing is, in 25 years, 50 years, 100 years from now, when they talk about the government shutdown, they're going to be talking about the president of the United States. Who was the president at that time? They're not going to be talking who the head of the House was, the head of the Senate. who's running things in Washington. So I really think the pressure is on the president."

You know that was 5 years ago! Doesn't count! He's changed now right? Can't people change their opinions?

Gold.

There you go.

Is it winning if the president says it's not?

Fun.

Fun times.

LOL Yeah, I saw a post on another site about this but didn't see a link to the actual interview. Good find, though they'll just deflect as always.

Wait...
So now you all believe and listen to FOX news?
I guess you will parrot anything from anyone so long as it fits your narrative.

Hopefully that trend continues with them both being 1-term presidents.
