That's what makes him a traitor.

If Mannings primary intent was to put the lives of his fellow citizens at risk by providing documents to Wikileaks, then he would be a traitor.

A by-product of releasing the information was, in part, the risking of US military personnels' lives, but I would bet good money that that was not Mannings INTENT.

Flight risk, incompetent, untrustworthy does not make one a traitor - add 'intent to cause physical harm' and you have a case, but here, Manning was, imo, simply doing what s/he thought was the right thing to do so as to stop the carnage - bring it to the attention of Wikileaks/the public and let the chips fall where they may, knowing that most sane humans dislike government corruption and love a bit of drama - this ticked both boxes.

So, what separates a traitor from an incompetent? Answer: Motivation (intent).

Or push the traitor as the new face of the dems.

Right, got it makes much more sense to think every single person above manning's paygrade is in on the cover up, oh wait that has to include the IG office for every single command in the Army, Congress and senate as well.

Or you have a single person wanting to stick it to the man, or chase 15 minutes of fame... Hmmm which is more likely I wonder.

There's in fact, and then there's de facto. The cronies, the blindly loyal, which pretty much leaves incompetent dooshes.

And yeah the Corruption is so far off the rails pretty much everyone that could pull a lever to right the wrongs but never does falls into that little spectrum.

*shrugs* IF manning had tried at the local command and got nowhere, then tried the IG and got nowhere and then tried an IG at another base and go nowhere, and Then tried congress and got nowhere then maybe yall would have a point.

From what I read not a lot of effort was made on Mannings part before giving the information to a foreigner. The assumption was made that corruption in a small corner of the military=corruption through every facet of the military.

More cognitive dissonance yay! Lol, the irony surrounding the case of Ms Manning and her heroic or traitorous deeds (whichever side you may stand on) has always intrigued me. Like many here for example will gossip and speculate with glee like old women about supposedly leaked information coming from an anonymous source “Q” or whoever on 4chan as if this person is some hero. Yet when a real life whistleblower uses exigent circumstances and subsequently puts herself in great peril and sacrifices years of her life to share real substantiated evidence of government corruption at the highest level involving the murdering innocent civilians to hide secrets we grab the ol torches and pitchforks. It’s insane, that is exactly the kind of firsthand witness account of government corruption being exposed that should be a conspiracy theorist wet dream.

One can’t help but notice that hate is especially amplified because said leaker happens to be Transgender. That is exactly why I would urge Ms Manning to abstain from running for office against an incumbent Democrat. That hate will come out in droves to keep her out of office so It would only serve to help lose the seat to a Republican.

If Manning wants to run for office , fine.

How any of this is some turning on Manning, escapes me. But have your fun.

Think you might have gotten things backwards republicans

Members on here have largely supported Manning over the years. Wikileaks moreso - and many celebrated the large Cablegate dump in 2010, where Manning was instrumental in providing classified data. But then turn around and stab her in the back, call her scum? traitor? What?

How does this make logical sense?

What really disturb is Assange's silence. Goes back to my previous thread about Assange being compromised earlier last year.

The first thing you have to realize is that NOT everyone on ATS is an America hating American. Some of us (Americans) have NEVER supported the traitorous Manning and friends, nor will we ever. Some of us, in fact, want America to succeed for centuries to come, regaredless of how hard the Democratic Party tries to destroy it...

The idea that all you have seen from the left, on the subject of Manning, or for that matter any of the people involved in true liberty and its provision to the people by way of access to information, is venom or some other deliberately inflammatory nonsense, is false.

I as left as you can get, and I KNOW you have seen my comments on the topic of Manning, Snowden, Assange, Wikileaks, and others, which have detailed not only that I appreciate what they are doing and think it is noble, just and decent, but also that their preparedness to do those things, especially in the cases of Manning and Snowden, make those two individuals genuine patriots, because unlike those brown nosing the military and the intelligence agencies, they actually put their arses on the line for what they believe in, and their beliefs are constitutionally based, not founded in the notion of appeasing corporatist agendas.

And I am FAR from alone in being both a lefty, and heavily supportive of any move which counters the unaccountable power of the military and intelligence agencies, in any nation. There are a significant number right here on this website, all of whom comment on these issues, or have done in great volume and detail.

So its either a total lie that all you have seen from the left is outrage, or, more likely, you only see what you want to. Either way, the notion that "the left" have been down on these people is nothing short of absolute garbage. The talking heads who stood to lose out may well have said all manner of things on the evening news, but they are not important, and they do not represent the majority either. The people at ground level do, and if you insist on paying attention to the pundits, not the word on the street, you are going to keep having to pull your foot out of your mouth on issues like this.

Do you really find that to be a convincing argument? It's ok to turn on your brothers in a fox hole as long as they shouldn't have been there to begin with? No honor amongst thieves I guess.

Yeah....pissing on manning is wrong. You dont have to love everyone. You just need to stay out of their lane.

The criminal background might preclude running. But congress need someone to overturn the tables on them. Im calling our current legislative branch "Public Enemy #1"

Trump contradicting himself is par for the course. Attacking Obama on his weakness is Trump's calling card. How does a person forget they supported someone and than do the total opposite and attack them for the same thing? Signs of dementia? If Trump truly thinks his mental fitness is stable and he wants to prove his detractors wrong, he should request to have a mental exam and make it public. After all, he's confident he's a very mentally stable genius!

However, I wouldn't be surprised if he did agree to get a mental exam he wouldn't make it public. Just like his failed promise to make his tax statements public when his auditing was complete.

Again, you are not listening to the people that matter. The left where it matters, on the street, does not call out Assange as a bad actor, and neither do I, nor do even a decent number of the left wing posters here.

Television pundits and hacks do all sorts of things that have no relevance to the real situation. But they are not the voice of the majority in the least.

My impression from the ATS experience is that today there are about 4 or 5 "liberals of old" to the 95 "democrats of new" sort of ratio (and thats being generous). Liberals of old, while they'd tend to be party cultists like republican counterparts, they still stood out as being counter-corporatism, antiwar, anti-coup, and the wedge issues were mostly about abortion and gay rights. The 'socialism' thing could go either way, which of course the 'other team' typical lampooned the anticorporatist stuff as being all about that. Since it was a Bush government I remember them as not trusting the government in the slightest, especially not since the bankster corporatists own the damn thing. My impression was this extended to the MSM which is pure multinational corporatist, propagandists that even the "liberal media" was selling US the wars, whitewashing the corruption, and so on.

Today we have these new 'liberal creature' which worship the government EVEN the CIA [whose whole history is overthrowing governments starting wars and attacking leftists across the world including here at home (Operation CHAOS)], worship the MSM, Hollywood isnt Weird, banksters might as well be cool again, Tech Giant Censorship is super duper cool, censorship across the board is to be rioted for, not everyone will violently attack people but when others do (including mass murder) we'll riot the internet in their defense, Obama never had a scandal, Hillary's war crimes are to be defended, theres no such thing as radical islam, Al Qaeda as our strategic partners in Syria isnt the stuff of treason not even outrage, as long as we dont have US military troops fighting the wars then no cause for concern, wikileaks are russian agents, there are russians crawling under all of our beds, everyone who isnt us / is counter-sjw are racist bigot nazi facsists, whites are the devil and responsible for everything bad but the DNC isnt, we dont like the War on Drugs which causes all the racial disparities BUT we dont actually care to lift a finger and hold Obama DNC etc to doing anything about it because its whiteys fault that cops shoot blacks, theres no such thing as Social Engineering, globlalism tearing down all our borders and letting in anyone and everyone no matter the rate of economic influx disparities or racial divisions or crime or drug flows it causes we're going to tear down our nations and yet scream it isnt anti-American while attacking every concept of nationalism as if its all pure Nazism....

etc.

Or in short, everything that could possibly set fire to our social fabric these "Democrat's of new" that's all them and they're all in and in your face about it half the time. I guess they're called "Progressives". "Cult of DNC / SJW" works too. And their behavior has radicalized the "conservative" crowd beyond the marks I ever recall, pushing them ever more towards this "Alt-Right" that has arisen in response to the SJW overtone of the whole affair. Just like the constant over the top MSM driven hair on fire hysterical attacks on Trump keeps pushing them towards an equal defensive posture thus exacerbating this "Cult of Trump" trend, which is already a natural thing enough without the trolling when you put people in groups behind leadership elements. So well done "liberals".

Is my impression.

yes, yes, we get it; Standard ats Talking Point 1, Standard ats Talking point 2, gesture at graph, Standard ats Talking Point 3; we've had the pleasure of being given these points like they're epiphanies a few times already this week.

Can i just ask.... what does it have to do with the thread?

To me, ATS needs more liberal viewpoints. That is my opinion.

I hope this makes the lurking liberals want to post more. It'll make us all better people to have those viewpoints presented to us....especially those of you who don't use trolling as you primary form of communication.

As a veteran, I would gladly volunteer to do rifle duty for Manning's "7-gun salute" should the opportunity even present itself.

Manning committed espionage against the United States by releasing diplomatic cables and military records to a foreign actor during a conflict period. Manning's actions weakened the country for years and led to the deaths of an unknowable number of foreign assets as well as potentially American servicemen/women. In short, her actions aided the enemy during wartime.

Which has nothing to do with "he/she/it/?" comments that are being thrown around here. These do nothing but weaken the arguments against Manning and make it seem like the posters are more upset about the sexuality and/or clothes Manning wears than the crimes she committed.

Which makes you people more upset - a transgender in office or a traitor to the country in office? It's hard to tell based on comments.

Which is really sad and pathetic as it's 2018 and being a traitor is still a crime.

I vote on the issues, not on the gender of the person.

If Manning is for lower taxes, smaller government, pro-2nd Amendment, and strong borders and national defense, then I'd vote for her.

Your bias and irrationality is all too clear.

Eat more fibre, you might feel better.

I dont say all that kind of stuff just to be a prick. I'm here from the time capsule to remind everyone where it all went wrong.

The 'thread topic' I saw was: Cultists. The modern face of our political cults / need to cut out the cult BS is where to go. To do that they have to be defined; put into their own historical perspective. Now cue up how this stuff works via human nature. And we have a place to work forward from.

Or we'll just put cult of trump / cult of hillary in every thread title, trigger the hell out of each other by focusing on the facade and then wash rinse repeat 12 times per day.
