Family of a farm worker is calling for his freedom after he was arrested by ICE officers in Wisconsin
This is breaking news in Wisconsin,
I don't have a link because is is breaking on FB

I have a feeling that milk is going to get real expensive soon. Either people with be ok with higher prices for American
worked/made products, or they will miss the cheap labor we have grown used to and will demand changes to the immigration system.
Can't have it both ways. When milk is $10 what will people say?

Just think about our food system, immigrant make up a huge portion of that population. Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying it is good that illegals have been doing this type of work (for slave wages), but we all know we have let this go on for so long.

People that think Americans want these jobs are wrong, ask the farmers.
"Wisconsin farmers have said it is nearly impossible to convince Americans to take the jobs"
Sure if they substantially raise wages, and improve conditions, but that is going to add a lot to the cost of milk, and other dairy products.
I live by a lot of farms, nobody wants to do this work, it is backbreaking work.

Something I have always wondered, why aren't we seriously going after the people that employ illegals, Super high fines, jail time, public shame?
If companies know there are severe repercussions to hiring illegals there would not be incentive to hire them, no incentive less reason for people to want to come here on their own?

"There has never been much public or congressional appetite for a harsh crackdown on employer "

The main milk producers still get subsidized by the government for milk to keep the price down. This will not effect milk prices, the vast majority of the farm workers around this neck of the woods are Americans or resident aliens. The illegals usually seem to work on vegetable farms picking veggies or in factories in Wisconsin. That is the way it was around fifteen years ago anyway. There are probably some illegals working on some dairy farms, I won't say there aren't. I do not see this as much of a problem, the farmers can find other workers in Wisconsin, they pay their help decent wages usually.

I wouldn't worry about the dairy industry not finding workers.

I understand the anger toward illegal immigrants, seeing the constant propaganda.

Even the people that employ them, yet I empathize with them. Most likely the small farmers are paying the price from big corporations sending the majority of labor and produce production overseas. (saying most, not all, Im sure theirs greedy ones out there too)

Supposedly, its to stay competitive, but its created a vicious circle and the US Work force pays the price. I'd like to see a control on exports and labor to keep jobs here.

It would ease problems related to immigration and if anything grow our central economy and hopefully stop some of this internationalist corporate greed.

That's probably a good thing, considering the vast majority of our milk comes from frankenheifers pumped full of hormones and steroids, eating foods they were never intended to.

Less people buying milk might actually improve the overall health of the nation.

Sad but true. Shouldn't be drinking the s# anyway.

I drink milk everyday. I'm five ten, one hundred fifty pounds and healthy as an ox at fifty five. So.....you drink what you like and let others drink what they like. Hate food police. Generalization suck.

Why do you assume that milk will go to $10?

The true cost of milk is hidden.

Think about the fact we have to school, house, jail, pay for health care, feed, heat, bury, and dispense medications for illegal aliens and their families.
Illegal immigration only helps corps, and leaves the taxpayer holding the bag for the social side of the illegal immigration. Oh and the taxpayer has a tomato for $.99 a pound instead of $1.04.
Plus the corporate welfare that hides the cost under the tax payers push up bra.

Americans don't want these jobs.

So import the milk.

There's no reason why a Mexican has to travel all the way to Wisconsin to milk the cow.

He can milk the cows in Mexico, and ship the milk to Wisconsin instead.

Problem solved.

I know several dairy farmers and they don't have Mexicans working for them.

Either he was breaking the law or he wasn't. There are legal ways to get farm workers here on a visa. If he broke the law send him home.

I don't care about your hyperbole milk.

Let's get the heart of the matter. Milk is so bad for you. It's about as unhealthy as it gets. Do some research.

This really isn't a big deal. We'd be so much healthier as a nation if we'd just start eating healther food not laden with antibiotics and steroids and who know's what else.

For low low pay no, American don't want those jobs.

For well over 100 years Americans have milked cow.
The cows havn't changed, much of the work remains the same, but the pay sucks. There is a saying that American won't do the job, and it is not true. Americans don't want to do work for slave wages, and sadly that is what many of our consumer goods demand. Cheap labor and tax subsidized social programs, socialism for corps.

Americans don't want these jobs.

One guy gets arrested so you think milk prices are going to go up?

Do you think this is the first person on a dairy farm to ever be arrested?

Your comments just prove laissez faire capitalism just doesn't work. We can't pay workers high enough wages to afford a descent standard of living. Maybe it's time to consider something else since laissez faire capitalism just doesn't work.

The amount of $$$ added per gallon would be negligible.

Look at tomato pickers and the .01 cent they fought for years and years and finally got.

Or look at the people who grow chickens and .01 cent per chicken they want. They get paid an average of .37 cents per chicken for the 4-7 weeks they do all the things for them to grow.

The truth about our agriculture is hidden by the media, they are NOT telling us the truth.
Would you pay another cent so you knew the guy who picks toms for you is well paid? Or how about .01 cent for the chicken so you knew the farmer that busted his ass was compensated with a little left over?

I for one would. The system we have benefits the corps.

The dairy industry is already one of the most heavily government regulated industries in the country. Maybe uranium mining is more regulated. Prices would already be sky-high if the government didn't subsidize dairy farms and control prices.

It's not one guy, they are targeting farms.

"Currently, about 79% of the nation’s milk supply comes from dairy farms that employ immigrants, according to a 2015 study from Texas A&M University that was commissioned by milk producers."

"In Wisconsin, which leads the country in cheese production, dairy farmers are already struggling to keep workers, according to the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism."

You mean illegal immigrants. If they were immigrants, ICE would not scare them.

If milk costs $8 a gallon, I can guarantee some super happy farmers here in Michigan that employ zero illegals.

Your suggestion seems to be that slavery is good because it keeps prices down and the slaves do jobs no one else wants? Plus, they are happier being slaves in the U.S. than being deported back to their sh*thole countries?

Is this correct???

I am basing my interpretation, in part, on your use of the term 'slave wages.'

***

As to your thoughts that LE should be going after those who employ people who cannot legally work in the U.S....I agree and I hope they do.
