You cant really blame them, but you have to question the wisdom of bringing people here who are going to depend on us for a long time if not forever when arriving.

The Statue of Liberty

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,

With conquering limbs astride from land to land;

Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand

A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame

Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name

Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand

Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command

The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she

With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!

Maybe Donald Trump should just knock down the Statue, as an out dated and outmoded symbol of a bygone era.

Even at the time of the statue, the US was taking people they thought would be best for the country.

If 100 million people would have showed up, they would have not been able to accept them all, and would have chose which ones to accept.

Lets look at what was promised by ted kennedy when they were passing the 1965 immigration act that was so influential to our country.

“First, our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. Under the proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same…

Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset… Contrary to the charges in some quarters, [the bill] will not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or area, or the most populated and deprived nations of Africa and Asia…

In the final analysis, the ethnic pattern of immigration under the proposed measure is not expected to change as sharply as the critics seem to think… The bill will not flood our cities with immigrants. It will not upset the ethnic mix of our society. It will not relax the standards of admission. It will not cause American workers to lose their jobs.”

cis.org...

Wait, why would he say that if this country was always about letting everyone in?

The truth is they had to lie to the American people, because they would have never accepted the immigration policy if they knew the truth.

It is a fkin poem, not policy.

Besides, everyone of them #hole leavers should be coming through Ellis Island, not anyway they can.

Like my grandparents did after WW1.

The statue was a gift from France and reflects French ideas of what America was at the time.

Fabulous to see a leader speaking the truth out loud.

Great to see democrats exposing their slimy nature by running to the press to tell.

Yeah like the truth the British were loathsome # holes when the Romans conquered them

Again I find your stance odd.

You say trump using that word about a country is racist, but you continue to use that word to describe areas yourself.

And this time, not even the country, but the actual British people.

That was written in a different time. Back when that was written, you could come to this country, work hard and have a chance at success. In 2018, the average American has a hard time making it from week to week. Its time to take care of our OWN people. We are not living the 19th century. We are living in these times:

When THESE people get help then we can talk about helping other people.

So your argument is that a poem should set immigration policy? A poem that was written after we received said statue, and was added to the podium 20 years after the statue was built?

Really?

The poem has nothing to do with the actual intended meaning of the statue.

ENOUGH of the personal insults. They are not allowed anywhere on ATS and anyone who feels they can't post in a civil manner towards each other move on before a Posting Ban becomes necessary.

Especially when the most significant immigration policy of the past century, the 1965 act, specifically said things like we wouldnt take in a million immigrants a year, there wouldnt be a demographic change, and there wouldnt be many people coming in from africa.

But know, we will just ignore the actual policy and pretend that this poem shows the US has never set standards on who to let in.

To be clear, I am not against taking in a certain number of people who are poor and likely to be more of a drain than a boon right away, but we do not need to take in unrestricted numbers of them, we absolutely have a right to be selective about it, and we are also under no obligation to take them and all of their nearest blood relations to the 3rd and 4th degree to avoid "breaking up families" (chain migration) when we do it.

And at the same time, we also have every right to place a priority on the best and brightest immigrants from wherever in the world they happen to hail from to fill out the bulk of our yearly immigration totals in whatever way best suits our country's needs too.

Donald Trump is a waste of flesh.
He is a racist through and through.
Anyone who defends this man must also be of the same cloth.

These are my opinion.

If you disagree with them then fine. But I will not budge in my beliefs.
Regardless of how many times I am silenced.
