It wasn't so much that he used the word to describe these places it's that he asked 'why'.

If you also don't know why, let me tell you; it's because it's what America was founded on. It's what the Statue of Liberty is standing there for. It's the fundamental and basic meaning of the 'American Dream.'

As our first president put it:

I had always hoped that this land might become a safe & agreeable Asylum to the virtuous & persecuted part of mankind, to whatever nation they might belong;

That coming from a slave owner, right?

Times have changed, eh?

And tomorrow he'll no doubt feed some ceremonial giraffe wrong somewhere despite watching and imitating how foreign dignitary L did it, and we'll all be clutching our pearls over that one.

Despite all the hype around this... do we even know that Trump actually said it?

Fabulous to see a leader speaking the truth out loud.

Great to see democrats exposing their slimy nature by running to the press to tell.

This man insulted numerous people and their countries. Do you think we’re the only country that has pride?

Cry me a river. If their countries are so magnificent, then why do they have so many citizens looking to enter the USA? If we are to believe it has nothing to do with their nations being #holes, and they are instead lovely nations, then does that mean these immigrants are trying to get into the USA purely as a money grab venture? Hmm... if I was from one of those #holes, I'd be far more offended at the idea of people viewing me as little more than an opportunistic thief than I'd be about someone insulting my country.

Pissing and moaning over half-assed insults... Jesus the world has gone soft.

He also said he’d rather take in more socialist immigrants.

So, there’s that.

Looks like you right wingers are ignoring that bit.

Is it because if you ignore it it will go away?

Your right wing president wants socialist immigrants.....let that sink in...

Well he included an entire continent to be accurate.

I could make a comment about how Americans probably think that Africa is a country not a continent but you wouldn’t like the blanket generalisation.

Even though Trump just made one and you love him for it....

edit on 12/1/18 by Chadwickus because: (no reason given)

Historically speaking, emigrants from socialist hells into the USA tend to be a lot more attuned to capitalism. There was a great influx of immigrants from Eastern Europe and very, very few of these immigrants viewed the socialist/communist crap favorably once they got here. If you want a die-hard ally, befriend someone your enemy screwed over repeatedly.

Yeah, I'll take the Republicans word for it cuz Trump never came across a tad racist before. Nor does their statement. Sure. They protect American workers, too? From what exactly, fair wages?

Lovely edit.
Whole quote:

I had always hoped that this land might become a safe & agreeable Asylum to the virtuous & persecuted part of mankind, to whatever nation they might belong; but I shall be the more particularly happy, if this Country can be, by any means, useful to the Patriots of Holland, with whose situation I am peculiarly touched, and of whose public virtue I entertain a great opinion.

In a letter To Francis Adrian Van der Kemp.

Would you rather take the public statements of people who were actually at the meeting... or the supposed word of an anonymous source for a partisan media outlet that has been repeatedly caught lying?

As for fair wages, ask anyone working for Walmart, Comcast or AT&T etc. who got a pay hike due to the tax reform passed last month what they think.

I live in an area where there are a lot of Haitian people. I find them to be hard working if they are offered work. There are quite a few Nigerian people in the area too, also hard workers. That being said, those countries are for the most part Hell holes that almost every single person would like to escape from. I think that's what Trump was trying to say. And though there are some very decent hard working people from there, there are also a lot of people who come here to live off the system because it offers them a better life than that hellish existence. You cant really blame them, but you have to question the wisdom of bringing people here who are going to depend on us for a long time if not forever when arriving.
