Remember the fuss over how sometimes they just put people on waiting lists until they died?

Oh, that wasn't all the VA was up to.

Turns out they also hired docs with revoked licenses too! And it's been an ongoing thing for as many as 15 years now and appears to have been done on purpose.

USA Today revealed yesterday that the Veterans Administration intentionally hired doctors and other practitioners who had their credentials revoked in other jurisdictions, thanks to a policy set forth in direct contravention to the law:

The Department of Veterans Affairs has allowed its hospitals across the country to hire health care providers with revoked medical licenses for at least 15 years in violation of federal law, a USA TODAY investigation found.

The VA issued national guidelines in 2002 giving local hospitals discretion to hire clinicians after “prior consideration of all relevant facts surrounding” any revocations and as long as they still had a license in one state.

But a federal law passed in 1999 bars the VA from employing any health care worker whose license has been yanked by any state. …

The USA TODAY investigation published earlier this month found that in addition to hiring Schneider, VA hospitals have knowingly hired other health care providers with past license discipline. In some cases, they have gone on to harm veterans.

So now there's a brain surgeon who had his license revoked for malpractice who has been practicing on vets and at least one of them has had complications.

But wait ... there's more!

There's a psychologist who was disciplined for sleeping with patients who, guess what, slept with his VA patients too. They've hired narcotics overprescribers. They also found another psychologist with felonies on his record. Background checks seem to be passe for government work these days.

Rep. Mike Coffman, R-Colo., demanded in his own letter that Shulkin launch a nationwide review to identify other VA health care workers with malpractice complaints and settlements or sanctions for poor care.

Coffman said in an interview that he worries the VA has become a “dumping ground” for such providers, who may not be able to find work or secure malpractice insurance in the private sector if past claims or discipline render them too risky. The agency doesn’t require medical workers to have malpractice insurance — the VA pays claims with taxpayer dollars.

“The dumping ground for all these folks is the VA,” Coffman said.

So the current single payer system in the states is the dumping ground for docs who screwed up, can't be trusted and basically can't practice anywhere in the private sector. So the vets get them and get screwed by them paying physically and mentally ... possibly with their lives, and we taxpayers end up paying for all the mistakes out of our pockets.

Just wait til we make all the health care systems single payer and these docs can care for all of us! It'll be special and not just a national tragedy like it is now.

its just sickening to hear what the VA has done over the years. we need to reform the entire infrastructure and get these people the care they deserve. im a big advocate of letting some of these people live tax free. if your a medal of honor recipient, purple heart, etc etc i think youve paid more then you ever should have had to pay and you now are stricken from the tax code for the most part. although wed need a much better review process to make sure the people getting these medals and this exemption really do deserve it.

Every big program the government touches is ran poorly.

After seeing how bad the VA os, who in their right mind would want the people running it to run a much more massive health care system.

We need to do better for our vets than this disgusting display.

Apparently not , after being used to further global dominance all over the globe and earning certain people vast amounts of money and power, these men and women are discarded like rotten fruit.....pretty sad. Anyone thinking of joining the military should do their homework first and work out if its a right choice for their life.

I have a friend who is a veterinarian.
He's patched me up a few times.
No anasthesia.
Strictly "hush, hush."

You don't understand how single payer works relative to your insinuations and the fact you used a story on the oversight and atrocities of the VA to push your liberal agenda is pretty much what we've come to expect from the liberals of today.

Truly a pathetic sector of our society today.

How is the OP pushing a liberal agenda? They appear to be advocating for better care of our beloved Vets, and criticizing the current system.

I guess you're trying to prove a point about government run schools that can't teach proper grammar.
