maybe that is just a temporary faring,

but i'm thinking that the faring is at its lowest setting, and it actually can reshape/push itself further into the airstream dependent on RPM and speed of aircraft.

especially as it accelerates, the air turbulence at inlet is critical to keep sustained supercruise possible, ie... for this aircraft just barely 1.1-1.2M

imagesvc.timeincapp.com...

Sure doesn't look like there's much else that could be an inlet otherwise...admittedly, that is a crummy photo, but...

Best picture yet.

Between this, the object of the mystery tweet tease, and saying that the demonstrator dates to before the requirements change, I'm batting a thousand so far on Boeing news...

It was literally written on the aircraft. I was sort of surprised there was any sort of debate.

Trying to make the RAM air inlet the engine intake was... Weird...

The options aren't mutually exclusive!

"Jet Intake Danger" with lines wrapping over the top of the fuselage to the exact same words on the opposite side. Who could have imagined it was a nearly flush, dorsal, intake?

I'm pretty sure you knew this, and the profile shots showed a flat section on top that looked out of place.

Those nodules on the wings sensors or hinges?

Most likely hinges.

Yeah I thought so too at first, but perhaps they're the drogue pods?

The requirement is that it has to use off the shelf pods already in inventory. And the demonstrator predates the emphasis on tanking. So the safe money is on it containing the wing-fold mechanism. Though it'd be an interesting place to try to stow a drogue and reel.
