Problem with bad inet in USA is not caused by net neutrality as one of principles of Internet, but by factual monopoly of large ISPs and theirs influence in all branches of US political system.

And for those Big Brother Government:

Customers in Europe are far better guarded from government and corporate snooping then customers in USA.

Customers should be enraged by Google, NSA, Facebook, not about net neutrality principle ...

Building of information highway on state or federal level is very similar to building that for trucks and cars. There is usually no reason to build separate parallel highways if you can satisfy demand by one structure. Optical lines ARE inflatable so there is no reason to do n parallel ditches with same cables ... all in bad standard. It is better to build it by institution which will survive next crash on Wall Street ...

Data networks are strategically important to any state, large structural projects like US dams or highway network, proved to be success, so why not do something similar for data?

It is better than New Mars Odyssey trumpeted over twitter ...

BTW many conservatives are endlessly proud that it was US craft which brought first man on Moon while bitching about useless government spending and preaching by God instituted Divine Reason of Big Money in Private Hands.

Wake up, without those massive public investments there would be no Gates, no Jobs, no Musk. Internet is now public utility with same importance as clear water, electricity, education or health care are. It is no longer possible to let few corporate players decide future of emerging signal system of society.

What I always wonder about in this discussion is why nobody considers Google, Microsoft, and Facebook "big business". They were the main pushers of the Obama ruling. What was their agenda?

Also, I highly doubt that any ISP is going to start doing what people are claiming. It seems that only east coast centered ISP's considered it and I am willing to bet they had their feet firmly planted on both sides of the fence.

ISP aren't going to do squat themselves, however the corporate puppet masters will pull all of their little strings accordingly. This is going to get messy.

There won't be a monopoly because others can fund their own ISP if there is a need for it like every other country without net neutrality. Why r people panicking over nothing.

What we need is government owned high quality infrastructure. The government then leases the space to providers. No need to build your own network. Would drive competition.

So wait till some oligarch decides you are worth of connection. I can assure you that we are not able to get wire to your location. Problem is last mile and unless you want some rothedrockefeller in charge of your data pipeline, you should support city/community network. We have good experience with this.

Technology may be their undoing. Someone may come up with something to bypass the net completely. Maybe something like a big wifi network that goes house to house, building to building, that doesn't use the present internet. Every time the elites have tried to squash technology, something new comes up to go around it. This will probably be no different.

This INSANE decision has paved the way for your ISPs to treat the internet just like they treat your cable TV. You will ONLY be able to access the channels (url's) that you pay for.

Yeah it's hard to say. The big guns usually have the final say for everyone else. Past the point of privacy invasion. It's a joke now. A manufactured EMP would be their last resort to a massive system reboot.

That's incorrect on so many levels, it's hilarious. BTW, cable is a title 2 utility

Man that would be a slow internet service. One thing that drives the internet is the ability to make money. It causes ISPs to invest in fiber optic lines which are hugely expensive. In fact so expensive companies make deals with other companies to split the costs. Trunks are never owned by just one company.

Here thought you guys want to see this it shows all the fiber optic lines in the US
